Helping a few friends setup a new desk... Its temporary and not finished yet. The right hand side will be 2x2 quad 26" widescreens like the left side. Three computers in total - left & right (quad 26" monitors) are where they will sit and the two 22" in the middle is for news/TV/youtube, etc. running on a seperate machine. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics - I'll put up a better one once the right hand workstation is complete and the bloombergs are installed. Hanging on Ergotron hardware, running on HPxw8600 hardware with dual Xeon x5482 CPUs and 16GB RAM. Middle box is a dual x5460 with 8GB RAM. W7x64.
Thx - its still a bit ghetto - the 26" monitors have webcams built into them so the bottom pair need to be run upside down. Also, the build quality isn't exactly the best - i'm not sure if its the plastic housing or if its the physical holes and mounting locations but each of them measure out slightly different so its like puzzle pieces putting them together. The other thing is they have a lot of glare and the viewing angles are ok on a horizontal plane (side to side) but they are very hard to view up & down (vertical plane) so either the top two or the bottom two look good but never all 4 unless you are about 10 feet away. If you are going to get large widescreens spend the money and get good ones like NEC or EIZO. Its just a headache setting them all up and looking halfway decent. I'll be happy when I get the last two ergo brackets and have everything assembled.
Two. The idea is they each have the 4 widescreens and then the middle two are shared for news/media, etc. (bloomberg TV, CNBC, Al Jazeera, BBC, etc.)
Nice set up for 2 people! I was thinking if that was for 1 person, it may be awkward to roll the chair between the left side and the right side because of the drawers in the middle.
hey winny! can't you just tilt the ones up top down a little? i do that with my 23"'s so that they look right from my seating position. what res are those 26" bad boys?
I looked at a number of the photos for ideas on how to expand my trading workstation. I have 2 monitors currently and know that having more will help - unfortunately I checked and found out that my @#$%^&*?!! Acer Aspire 3910 has no expansion slots left for additional video cards, at least that's what the friendly chaps who sold it to me tell me. So now I am looking at a bespoke cpu to cater to more monitors etc. I reckon it will be cheaper than buying the high end workstations those nice friendly chaps are trying to sell me. Having the photos and some comments on the technical side helps me visualise and plan. That said, when I started trading stocks I made money with a 12" Sony laptop that was 8 years old. Hell on the eyes, but it's the brain that makes the money, not the machine (with apologies to HFT).
