My assertion is that at the point in time you have to do that, there's no guy on the street corner selling hot dogs, and if there is he won't want a piece of soft metal in exchange unless it's affixed to the front end of a projectile with gunpowder behind it.

I agree 100%, never been a goldbug, don't mind trading it, but a gold bug wouldn't sell his gold under any circumstances, even if he was starving. But in a cash only market you may get a better deal with gold if the currency is shaky.

That's another great point, you do get the impression that they guy's really attached to gold would rather starve than part with any of it!
