Would you like to see a chatroom at EliteTrader ?

Most of the trouble makers that caused the chat room to close were "veteran members". :(

Simply, the number of post count doesn't determine whom will or will not be a problem in a chat room. In contrast, what's wrong with a moderator or several moderator (to prevent any bias) just looking at the post history of any member that wants to join the chat room for traders ?

For example, do you want a veteran member to join the chat room in which that member has spent 90% of his time here at ET arguing, debating in the chat chat or P&R threads and has not posted anything useful involving trading ?

Regardless, until there's a viable solution in place beforehand to prevent the same old problems from returning again in a chat room...

I'm sure Baron doesn't want that headache again.

Anyways, someone has already made a very useful suggestion. Start a chat room outside of ET to see whom shows up, whom participates and so on. Ooops, that was already done a few times in the past on IRC, Hotcomm and the same old crap started all over again. :D

The chat was always entertaining. Please bring it back.

An "off-site" alternative is not the same thing. Having the chat accessible right from ET with no need for an extra login (or at least no way to enter the chat with another alias) is one reason for it's coolness.

I think that the main reason the chat disappeared was that the java based software (DigiChat) was very expensive and stopped working after an ET upgrade. But I may well be wrong... one guy here knows for sure though, haha. Baron.

You mean that people don't want the chatroom back? :)

The reason why it is dead, because I set it up just as an example, and I forgot the password to it. Without that I can't reset it, thus the room/text would be going on and on for weeks. Not to mention it needs more exposure, not just a casual mentioning in the middle of a thread. I am also not willing to play the role of the chatroom moderator/reseter. You need someone who actually wants to be there most of the time.

So if someone (like Volente) is willing, here is how to make it successful:

    1. Make up a room and make sure you have the moderator password.
    2. Advertise it in a separate thread, that the chat will be open everyday.
    3. Reset it (so the conversations are cleared) every day or every other day, so it doesn't get overly long. Maybe every other day is better, so people can be held responsible for their calls.
    4. You also have to attend it, so someone is there most of the time...

That is about it, quite simple really.... The only disadvantage of an offsite chatroom is that people can pretend to be someone else, but other than that, I don't see any problem with it. If there is a need, there is the solution, you guys are just too lazy to do it....

The chat room was good for calling trades ahead of time.

It might be a pleasant experience for observers.

After RTH it could be a good debriefing oconversation place; yahoo has messenger and there a chart could be reviewed.

Hehe, everyone is crying, and I was the only one who did something. :)

I explained how it works, go finish the task if you want to chit-chat (because Baron ain't gonna do it), instead of criticizing those who actually have ideas and have done something...

I probably should quote the immortal Oprah:

"You get a chatroom, you get a chatroom, everyone gets a chatroom!!!" :)

Baron has the settings such that you can post with very little delay, so it's not much different than opening the "chat" back up.

So, just open a thread called "Trader Chat".

    There...everbody's happy.

    Great idea...thanks BSAM.

    You're welcome.

  10. Um, Twitter? It's got timelines related to every security out there. Folks sit there & talk all day about what they're doing.
What you guys are bringing up here is dated tech at this point.
