Pete Buttigieg- Major supply chain issues- no experience

Discussion in 'Politics' started by TreeFrogTrader, Oct 4, 2021.

  1. That's a very port-centric view of the supply chain. ie. there is only so much we can do at the port and things have worked well for thirty years except for now so what can we do?

Lots of issues with trucking, no plan. for example. We are a very passive people these days. Takes us months to figure out who if anyone is our supply chain leader/go-to person in this country and if that person is on the job or out on maternity leave. We have supply chain issues beyond just the ports too. Not sure where the center of our expertise exists is supposed to be in this country/government. I need to hear more than "we can't, we can't, no one person can change this, so on and so forth."

  2. Why would a government person be the supply chain leader or go-to-person when this is purely a private sector issue. I dont understand the desire to look for a government official to solve a foreign supply chain issue. Can Biden demand that Yellow Freight System go out and buy 500 more trucks immediately? It is easy to sit back and demand a fix but again there has to be a better understanding of the supply chain and the fact that we are not communist haha...

If LA/LB port needs better highway system to get rid of the traffic jams of trucks waiting to load then something can be done to alleviate a small congestion problem. But the problem is not oor highway leading into the port.
We have record levels of imports right now (record implying never before seen). I just dont think there is a DOT or White House fucktard solution except for us to support companies to shift production to this hemisphere but not the U.S., it is too expensive and GOP does not want corporate welfare. Private sector has to solve their own problems and not on my dime, they are the ones who chose to move all their manufactiring to Asia and if that means people cannot buy all their Xmas gifts without paying freight premiums... well....

I understand your frustration but just dont agree the government has some magic fix in a political argument.

Looking at some macro data to piggy back off of this:

Check out the inversion of consumption of goods and services when the pandemic hit:

Also, working people are actually making headway and with more income consume more:

And another little gem among these strange economic times is even during inflation Americans have never saved so much so fast:

  4. You are presenting it in a binary manner. If I suggest that more can be done you frame it as looking for a "magic fix.

And yes I expect the government to play a strong constructive role in areas that impact national interests and rise to a crisis level. That, in fact, is the type of area where they should help out. And no, I did not say "take over forever and day." Not sure why you and others who advocate large, large intervention in all other areas of the economy are so willing to give the government a pass on this. Oh, I see. We don't want Biden to look bad here. It is not unlike the Kabul scenario. Government is funding and meddling in all aspects of society and the economy in the name of covid, but in the area where they truly could have helped- ie. evacuating U.S. citizens- the only truly proactive work is being done by private parties. What's wrong with that picture class?

So we have the fed chair and Secretary of Treasury saying inflation got out of control and they had to revise because they did not anticipate the supply chain problem. But then Psaki comes on dismisses it by saying that everyone will get their treadmill for Christmas. What a mixed message clown show.

Things are not falling apart and things are not good either. We just wallow in a sea of mediocrity these days. There are solutions to lots of things. Just see what the Chinese or the Scandinavians are doing. The excellence is not in this country. We probably should have subcontracted with the Chinese to get our people out of AFG.

  5. See you dont read anyting I write or present... the fact that you said above when I have been hammering the government should not intervene nor has any useful way of doing so means we have a disconnect...where I say something and you revert to political response.

We were having such a nice conversation until you wen there and then made it political about Biden and Psaki... like Trump who appointed a doctor to head HUD would have done anything different than spin it in his favor....

  6. This was hte big issue... since people could not go to businesses and buy things in person or hire people for things like before, everyone shifted to buying online which is mostly goods and not services. That shift was way too fast and too big for anyone in the logistics or supply chain to keep up with...

  7. Well, you and Usual Tard are following the script of saying that Biden had nothing to do with it.

    WRONG!

Biden created a fake economy by surging disposible income under the guise of covid relief. Normally, when people lose jobs and the economy is shut down and in a hole, people start tightening up, having lawn sales, looking for work any place they can get it.

Not so under the Fake Biden Economy. Savings levels and disposible income surged and we paid people more to stay home and bang on the Amazon order button all day long than they would get by going to work.

Tell me again that Biden had nothing to do with the surge in orders. Elect a fake president - get a fake economy.

elderado, UsualName and FortuneTeller like this.

  8. So Biden is the one who personally went on Amazon and started ordering shit left and right and make sure that container ships would be full of good coming to America. Then he went out and placed personal orders for as many manufactured goods as he could on behalf of Europe and Latin America just so that all the ships coming from Asia would be locked up and there would be a surge in freight rates. Let's ignore the fact that logsitics within Asia as well as to Europe, South and Central America and Africa got backed up for months and Biden has nothing to do with but the GOP believes anything a pillow guy says...

Then this genius we call Joe made sure he took a bunch of his orders and moved them to air freight so that it would be used up and no space would be available. Then he called China and told them to buy as many soybeans as possible so that soybean oil and palm oil would spike in prices to almost record highs.

Just when you though Joe was too busy to do anything else, he closed several ports in China by making up a covid outbreak which stopped shipments for a while. Then his major achievement was flying out to Egypt and secretly getting on board an Evergreen ship and turning it into the side of the Suez Canal. Holy shit... how did Joe even have time to back up the ports of Rotterdam and Algeciras and others in Europe....

Wow.... Biden is an amazing man to singlehandedly cause problems in all countries in the world at once while hiding in his basement...

nah .... does not sound fucktarded at all

  9. Well, your politics required you to use some snark to dismiss the points that others can clearly see are legitimate. I have not said that Joe has done the things you said. I have put him clearly in the chain of causation for creating massive freebie disponsible income that led to a surge in consumer demand. I stand by that. And no one would question it unless their lefty script required them to do that.

In addition, I will point out that Joe Biden is directly in the chain of causation for the leading cause of death among people under 45 now. Which is fentynal overdose. Biden's opening the border to fentynal is resulting in massive, massive numbers of deaths among Americans. He is THE major enabler of that scenario and directly at the front of the chain of causation on that and he should be held accountable and judged for it. Now, your script requires you to, again, reframe my words as saying that Joe is out there selling drugs on the streets and injecting people. Go ahead and do that if you got nothing else as you did with my other post. It will be lame, and the viewers will see it as such. But go for it.

Otherwise. Yes. I am saying Biden is able to have a major impact on many, many foreign and domestic issues. That fact that he fucks all of them up, does not mean he does not have an impact and is not responsible. Ditto for Kamatart.

Big hug for you nevertheless as I always remain of good cheer.

  10. Biden just went on the air claiming the shelves are full and packages are getting delivered...

basically an attempt at nothing to see here..

retailers began stockpiling in June for the Xmas season so not surprised we have a Xmas season with full shelves and orders online are being filled and delivered pretty good. But last summer is when the freight rates began spiking and the major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Target began chartering their own vessels to bring in goods from Asia and ensure no interruptions.

The issue with supply chain is not that we are all starving for goods and shevles are bare..... the issue is the costs have increased 10x since last year and this will continue well into 2022. The only thing driving it is global demand of manufactured good and products from Asia (not just U.S. demand). The only thing that will solve it is when global demand slows down. The COVID recession was extremely short lived so I dont see any drop offs in global demand and the global supply chain has a finite amount of cargo it can move at any one time so we will just have to pay more and deal with delays.

Hug with a reach around right back at ya
