Such a noble goal - Such a hypocritical group

Documents published online this month show that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an organization known for its uncompromising animal-rights positions, killed more than 95 percent of the pets in its care in 2011.

The documents, obtained from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, were published online by the Center for Consumer Freedom, a non-profit organization that runs online campaigns targeting groups that antagonize food producers.

Fifteen years’ worth of similar records show that since 1998 PETA has killed more than 27,000 animals at its headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

In a February 16 statement, the Center said PETA killed 1,911 cats and dogs last year, finding homes for only 24 pets.

“PETA hasn’t slowed down its slaughterhouse operation,” said Rick Berman, CCF’s executive director. “It appears PETA is more concerned with funding its media and advertising antics than finding suitable homes for these dogs and cats.”

  2. While PETA has gone over the top on many issues, the fact remains that most of the animals they rescue are in a terrible way and putting them down is the humane thing to do. Once again, we can all twist the numbers to suit our personal agendas.

  3. Are the animals actually euthanized or sold to Vietnamese restaurants? :)

  4. This consistent with the beta's world view. Who start's thread like this?

They probably should be euthanizing the peta directors and corporate officers. These people have twisted their cause to the rediculous. Putting down 95% of the animals in their care is outrageous.

  6. We need to do away with pets. it's all gone way too far imo. Should be outlawed.

It was cool when cats and dogs came and went. But now its just all twisted.

LOL Maybe if they round up some chickens or turkeys or even a stray cow. Dogs aren't for eating and I have no desire to try cat. They have no cloven hoof anyway. :D

  9. This is one animal PETA needs to put down.

Animal rights activist charged in anti-fur murder plot

By Alexandra Myers - The Daily Caller 5:42 PM 02/23/2012

“Fur is murder,” the old PETA slogan goes. But now anti-fur activism can be a killer too. A Cleveland, Ohio woman was arrested Tuesday for conspiracy to commit murder after she posted a Facebook message offering to pay a hit man $730 to kill someone wearing fur.

New York’s Daily News reported that Meredith Lowell had compared animal rights activism to the liberation of World War II concentration camps, and decided to take her beliefs to the next level.

Lowell created a Facebook account under an alias to promote her plan.

“I would like to create an online community on Facebook which would allow me to find someone who is willing to kill someone who is wearing fur toward the end of October 2011 or early November 2011 or possibly in January 2012 or February 2012 at the latest,” her posting read.

When police discovered the post in November, an undercover operation was set up to correspond with Lowell and agree to do the job. Authorities say that the undercover officer was offered $730 in jewelry or cash.

‘I am paying you $730 to kill one person wearing fur who is 12 or older – hopefully at least 14 years, however 12 years old or older is fine,” she reportedly wrote an undercover FBI agent in an email.

Lowell told the hit man to kill the first person he saw wearing fur outside of a library in Cleveland Heights.

After the two had conversations for several months, Lowell started opening up to the officer on Facebook and eventually through email. She revealed that she had been posting to Facebook under an alias, and discussed the details of her murder plan.

In one of those emails, she offered shocking details.

“You need to bring a gun that has a silencer on it and that can be easily concealed in your pants pocket or coat,” she wrote.

“If you do not want to risk the possibility of getting caught with a gun before the job, bring a sharp knife that is (at least) 4 inches long,” Lowell continued. “t should be sharp enough to stab someone and/or slit their throat to kill them. I want the person to be dead in less than 2 minutes.”
Lowell also told the officer that she wanted to run away from home because her family eats meat, wears wool and uses animal products.

The Ohio animal activist extremist remains in custody, awaiting a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
