Personal 'Obamacare' accounts debut

  1. I certainly don't support Obamacare and I thnk the republicans should defund it and do anything else they can to prevent it from becoming effective. Inititally, that was very risky, as they wouldhave been blamed for any problems with it.

Now that Obama has exempted large groups of people from it and delayed the employer mandate until after the election, the republicans have a far easier argument. All they have to say is this law is so screwed up, even its chief supporter can't implement it fairly. Let's step back and take another look.

Now having said that, Newt Gingrich also has a point that the republicans have to have some alternatives. Obviously, the far left wants socialized medicine for its own sake. They want socialized everything, and health care is just one item on their lengthy agenda.

But ordinary people have legitimate issues with health care, and the republicans turn them off byappearing uncaring or out of touch. It's not fair that someone can get fired and lose their health care, and then be uninsurable because of a preexisiting condition. It's unfair that the poor and illegal immigrants can go to an Er, get treated and pay nothing, yet a middle class family is bankrupted by the same injury or illness.

Plenty of people want to be responsible and have health insurance but can't afford it. I was talking to a carpenter a year or so ago, and he told me coverage for him, his wife and two kids was over $1000 a month. No doubt it has gone up since then. Wage earners cannot pay those kinds of prices. They feel trapped. The republicans answer is medical savings accounts, but that is a joke. The whole point of insurance is to get the huge discounts they negotiate with providers.

I'm not an expert, but I know there are plenty of discrete steps the republicans could propose as alternatives to Obama's one size fits all approach. The only person who gets any attention however is Paul Ryan, and his solutions are highly unpopular with not only democrats but republicans as well. Surely we can do better.

Democrats and the Medical Cartel got together and each got their coup: Democrats got control of our health records and our medical care [they can use it to intimidate dissenters, they gave their ghetto dwellers the same medical care as everybody else] and the Medical Cartel got a much larger piece of the US pie chart..

We the people (tax payers) of course want better. "We" the powers that be not only do not want better. They don't need better. They've exempted themselves from the cluster fuck they're forcing on us.
