The way I read this original post is that people close to and around OP are “negative” towards his trading. Could it be that they see him struggling? Perhaps their advice is misguided but it’s likely from good intentions after witnessing firsthand OP’s market adventures or misadventures.

If you believe in yourself, you don’t need to look to anyone else for support. Stay focused. Work in silence. No one else needs to know your trials and tribulations. And don’t brag about successes; you are only setting yourself up for a mental fuck up.

Everything stated above goes double for message boards. You are better off getting a support dog if you need emotional support.

In my opinion, one of the reasons why people are negative is that trading is risky and when people face any losses they tend to feel impatient which makes them feel more negative about it.

I think they know on some subconscious level that a winning trader is on the other side of many loser's trades (and most people lose when attempting to trade short term). Of course they're negative toward the house, which you represent, if you keep taking their money.

People are a lot more receptive of investors. If you told your friends to short stocks using an inverse ETF six months ago and gave the reasons (supply chain destruction from lockdowns, QE ending and tapering, rates going up, and explained how this would ruin profits, buybacks, disposable income, etc). you might be considered a Guru by now.......

Sometimes, newbies, due to lack of knowledge, lead them into scams and lose heavily. The rising numbers of scams have decreased the credibility of forex trading.

  5. Many traders who fail to make successful trades and lose heavily are the ones to spread this kind of negativity about the forex market.

  6. Trading has a negative reputation when associated with greed, risk, and failure. In fact, trading is not that dangerous if you do it the right way. The key is to comprehend and practice everything regarding trading patterns, market news and economic events with proper dedication and consistency.

  7. You’re right! Many people trading forex with this negative mindset tend to fail and put the whole failure blame over the market.

    "People are negative about trading"
Some people are negative about trading.
    What kinds of people?
The kinds of people that can not do what you can do now and want to get better at, or about which you want to share your ideas, or even just what you are trying to do.

Fugg em, it's just one of many 'ways of the troll'.
Yes it is very unfortunate for us who are earnestly pursuing an aspect of discussion that's of value to us.

There are hundreds of cases where an all over the road, out of left field 'voice of reason and expertise' takes it upon themselves to interject 'clever' nonsense into, or hijacking entirely, the stream of a what before had been a perfectly functional thread, and doing so to the point that the thread becomes a disjointed unfortunate mess. Crabpot mentality at work. (article below)

Then ya got the 'delusions of adequacy egomaniacs' who insert banal crap that everybody learned in grade school about 'buyer beware' in all it's variations over and over all over the damn place, or this type will state obvious bs and claims of a superior way to do things, then coyly step behind his mommy's skirts back on the porch instead of provide a shred of concept or god forbid detail about a method, or setup, or trigger that gives their crap any iota of value.

Both are not entertaining, nor informative.
They merely disrupt and retard the value that traders can be to one another.
This makes them happy and fulfilled.
    Is this not sick?

Don't let the losers get ya down, bro.
    Do your thing.

When I used “hater” (which had been introduced to me by a student, also) this past week, one of my students said that she used “crab pot mentality” to describe the same thing. She said when crabs are put into a cooking pot, they start to clamber up the side of the pot to escape. An interesting thing happens on their way to freedom: The crabs left behind reach up and pull the fleeing crabs back into the pot. Rather than see anyone live for another day, the crabs appear to be content to all die.

What a powerful metaphor! I did a quick Google search and found a number of references to “crab pot mentality.” Here are just three:

Whatever you choose to call these people—haters, crabs, energy vampires, saboteurs, dysfunctional—they can kill a dream if we allow them into our world. If you have run into these energy suckers, please share your strategies. What is your antidote to their poison?
