Pelosi Impeachment Inquiry

  1. The supreme court justice might have some powers to call witnesses if the senate rules adopted to run the trial provide for that but they have not done that here. In any case it is a delegated power from the senators to the chief justice not something inherent in chief justice's power in that role. I think Salmon Chase called or ruled on some witnesses in the Johnson trial because they let him. In the clinton case, rehnquist stayed out of it and was not given that power.

Same thing with the executive privilege thing. They may let Roberts give an advisory opinion on it and then vote on it as senators who make the rules. But that is not the same as saying that he has the power and authority of a judge just because they are letting him function as a facilitator. You know, if Earl Warren sits as the head of the Committee to Investigate the Kennedy Assassination that doesnt make the Committee a court.

Exactly correct. The Senate grants The Chief Justice powers or not. ---The Lefties here are all frothy but are without a clue.

  7. Lindsey Graham abruptly cancels planned press conference in wake of John Bolton bombshell

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) abruptly canceled a planned press conference that had been scheduled for Monday morning after a bombshell report claimed that former national security adviser John Bolton is backing up a key allegation in the impeachment case against President Donald Trump.

Graham was originally set to talk at 11:30 a.m. on Monday alongside several of his fellow Republican senators, but Politico’s Jake Sherman reveals that press event has now been shut down.

Earlier in the morning, Graham floated a potential willingness to call Bolton to testify, although he qualified this by saying that Trump should also get to request any witnesses he wanted as well.

“If there is a desire and decision by the Senate to call Democratic witnesses, then at a minimum the Senate should allow President Trump to call all relevant witnesses he has requested,” the senator wrote on Twitter.

Here is the reason Graham cancelled his planned press conference.
