what is wrong with executing harmful people to society? if the state owned its own prisons and guards were paid next to nothing and it was strictly non-profit, I would be for incarceration. However the only reason why these people arent being killed is because the private sector controls the prison system and charges the taxpayer for it, dearly. What good is an inmate with 50 years ahead of him dead? you are right. to us he is worthless but to the system its 30k min in revenues per year.
