I don't think USA has "changed" litteraly.
It is the world that has changed, and USA is adapting to the rest of the world.

As for this PDT rule, I think it can be removed if the topic is brought up.

yes, when you read history, its amazing how bear market seems to impess the mind in just the same way again and again (same as bull market by the way).

But, I seriously doubt this PDT rule is helping the market when its bearish.... again, I see no benefit to anyone in this rule except from some big old players.

And I believe it has. But it takes some time to prove it.

I remember when they changed the drinking age from 18 to 21 in order for states to get highway funds.

The senator from n.j. (big liberal) responsible for the bill said 18-21 years old do not vote their parents do. I think this sums up liberalism. They will restrict individual liberties every chance they get as long as they do not get voted out of office. Hence the PDT rule. Screws individuals and gets money from big business that is a twofer or even 3fer.

I believe that the day traders were taking alot of money from the institutions and larger firms. This resulted in the PDT rule.

Look at Donalson's remarks about the hedge funds and need to regulate and disclose strategies. Again the "industry" wants to controll an industry that is threatening to them.

Another area that is similar is the investment areas a 401K can get in. The big funds and institutional players want to eliminate all the other players.

    Most definitely !
But its a loosing battle for them, its only a question of (short) time.

I can't create the petition. First i'm not american, so it would be ridiculous if a french would create such a petition :) . Second, my english is not good enough. But if someone has good writing skills, it would be easy to set this up and spread the word all over:

I'm pro-freedom which means anti-PDT, but this concept begs a question: If they day traders were taking "alot of money" then how come they don't have more than 25k?

Great, bro`. That`s why you think that the country does not change ?
I am not born in US neither, but while I have spent most of my life on American soil I can feel the pain.
We just have agreed through the years... hoping that things will eventually get better... if not, we hoping for less... and so on... and so on...

  9. Anyone want to care to explain exactly why the rule is unAmerican? It may be in place to discourage casino like gambling in the marketplace. To think of another rule, isn't it true that if you have a net worth of $1 million, your an accredited investor even if you don't know anything about investing?

Whats the real reason behind the PDT ?

  10. I agree with all of the above. But thanks to PDT I found futures. I wasn't very profitable after decimalization anyway...never go back to stocks.
