    Calif. fires cause $1B in damages, burn 7,000 buildings
    The wildfires that have devastated Northern California this month caused at least $1 billion in damage to insured property, officials said Thursday, as authorities increased the count of homes and other buildings destroyed to nearly 7,000. State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones said the preliminary dollar valuation of losses came from claims filed with the eight largest insurance companies in the affected areas and did not include uninsured property.     Internet service provider quickly rebuilds after wildfires
    The fires that burned more than 200,000 acres in the North Bay this month left few things in their path untouched, including at least one fiber optic cable bringing internet access to local businesses. Santa Rosa, Calif.-based internet service provider Sonic quickly rebuilt. Now, it's working to help businesses displaced by the fires recover as quickly as possible by having next-day access to high-speed internet at their temporary offices.     Class Action attorneys are all ready advertising for clients to sue PG&E, even though investigation is not yet completed whether PG&E is responsible for the wine country fires...

    PG&E warns losses from wildfires could cost millions
    PG&E said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it expected to pay out millions for the restoration of service and potentially for losses related to any or all of the 32 lawsuits currently filed against the utility by wildfire victims and shareholders. “The company currently estimates that it will incur costs in the range of $170 million to $200 million for service restoration and repairs to the company’s facilities,” the filing states(Sacramento Business Journal)

    I am sure they mean billions....

    Calif. chief justice expects an influx of wildfire claims
    California courts are preparing for an influx of lawsuits tied to last year’s historically destructive wildfires and mudslides, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye told lawmakers in her annual “state of the judiciary” address. The anticipated surge of disaster-related litigation combined with a backlog of civil cases shows the court system needs more money to restore staff and operating hours that were cut during the Great Recession and provide raises, Cantil-Sakauye said.(Insurance Journal)
