Honestly, I wish I was still working, except for the stress. I have seen them retire and a couple of years later, die. You have to adjust.
My younger brother is planning on retiring in 2 years @ 55 and I'm worried for him. I asked him what are you going to do for the next 20 years while your still able bodied, he doesn't really have any hobbies and isn't an out going guy either.

If you love what you are doing, stay with it. Fulll retirement is becoming less and less attainable, with ZIRP and it looks like that won't change without some pain. Semi-Retirement sounds much better, if you can stay healthy.
The business background of our former presidents is well documented and, I would think, non-controversial. So it's the other major premise behind the assertion that would likely be challenged.
