Part Time Jobs for Traders

Discussion in 'Professional Trading' started by soltron45, Nov 6, 2008.

  1. Yes I do trade. After 3 years of fits and starts I am turning a profit.

Is one trade an hour for one tick too much to ask? (If you can't then you have to question if trading is for you. It's as simple as buying the bid and selling the ask. Hint: do that in an uptrending market. Vice-versa in a downtrending market).

If not then one should stick with the sure thing of a part time job.

Market volatility and daily market trading ranges will be shrinking. The ones who can learn to trade the small ranges and take what the market gives them will survive. Those looking for the big swings of the past will be disappointed.

  2. Risking $0.10 to make $0.02-$0.05? With that risk reward you're going need an extremely high win percentage to keep that working.

  3. Who said anything about Socialism here? I am a proud Ron Paul supporter. The only political candidate I’ve ever given money to. I'm not talking about taking from the rich and giving to the poor. I’m talking about an honest day’s pay for an honest days work. Is $4.50 a fair wage? I know. I know. If I don’t like it I can quit. My point is there is not much else out there right now. This is the best I can do now, but it doesn’t make it right. The low pay isn’t what bothers me as much as the fact that every year my money is being eroded through inflation. If I don’t get a raise, I actually make less money. If I put a dollar under my mattress, one year from now it’s only worth 95 cents. That’s wrong. This is how the middle class is being wiped out. I have a credit card with Chase. On all of my credit accounts I have absolutely perfect payment history. So how did they reward me? They raised my interest rate from 8% to 24%. Is this what you call a free market? I follow the rules and they triple my interest rate.
Yes I know the free market has dicatated that I get $4.50 an hour and no benefits. I know that because there are more than enough people willing to work for that right now. That doesn’t make it right. Think of it this way. I am better than most drivers. If you drove with me I would already have the pizza delivered by the time you figure out where we are. I can do the work of 1.5 drivers. I am loyal and can work any position in the store. Have never stolen a penny and will always work for what’s best for my fellow employees and customers. So paying me more will help the business. If you had all guys like me running the store, you would be able to save on labor because you would be able to hire less people. Also there would be less turnover, which costs the company in acutal expenses, as well as lost sales due to low performance of a new employee.
I never called them. It was a very unprofessional store. So I quit and then the store manager called and begged me to come back. I stayed a few more months and then quit again. If I owned a store and somebody worked for me for 4 years and then quit, I would at least call him to find out why. But that's just me.
Did you not read before where I said I don’t want a handout from Obama? Of course nothing is free.
Well that’s great for you. Can I ask how old you are? Are you one of these Baby Boomers that thinks my generation is worthless and lazy? You might be right about some of us, but not all of us. You guys all think you’re investing genius’s because you bought the DOW 30 years ago at 500. If I told you in 30 years the Dow would be at 200,000, you would think I’m crazy. But that’s exactly what has happened. You guys all bought your big single family homes for 50k, and are now worth 800k. You benefited from the huge inflation boom of the past 30 years that my generation is now paying for.

I got my insurance and series 6 license when I was 18. Unfortunately you usually don’t make money in that proffession unless you aggressively sell stuff (screw people out of their money). I wasn’t willing to do this. I sat in an appointment once and watched my boss sell a couple the most expensive life insurance possible, even though he had the quotes from another AAA rated company all ready to go. He called it selling the “white meat” products. I also opened a small store in a mall three years ago, all financed through deliverying pizza. That didn’t work out either. I sold the rest of the inventory on eBay.

I would love to start my own restaurant. Would you lend me 250k to start it? I didn’t think so.
    Thanks I appreciate that

  4. I know. Maybe I should work for free so that you can get the pizza for even less. What business are you in? How about you take a paycut so your customers can save money. How bout we ask the military, teachers, and construction workers to take pay cuts so we taxpayers can save money.

I never said I was entitled to a middle class lifestyle. I said if you work 40 hours a week you deserve a decent standard of living. Do you consider a roof over your head, food on the table, health insurance, etc middle class? Do the lower class get a cardboard box and tylenol?

Lastly you're an idiot if you think higher pay leads to higher prices. Labor is only 20% of the price of the pizza. If everybody got a 50% raise, then a direct increase in the pizza would only be 10%. If a restaurant is run properly, 50% of the sales over a certain point is pure profit. So if a store were to give the employees a raise, but then demand more profitability out of the operations, you could give all of the employees raises and the owner will still make lots of money. The greater volume will offset the need to raise prices. Even if it didn’t, the higher wages among the employees will lead to greater consumer spending at your business which will increase your income, thereby justifying the increased cost of the pizza.

I’m now an economist, but this is how I see it. Feel free to disagree with me.

  5. Be careful who you make fun of. I guy with no experience whatsoever, has accomplished just about nothing in his life, and hasn't showed up to work half the time for the past 4 years, just got elected President of the United States.

One of us losers might just run for public office one day. Then we'll see who's laughing.

  6. Wow someone giving me advice instead of ripping me apart. Thank you. I have worked many 80 hour weeks in my life. Almost every dime I’ve ever invested was from deliverying pizza. I just started trading with a prop firm and get plenty of buying power. I’m trading just 100 shares until I am consistently profitable. My concern now is being able to just make enough to keep up with the bills.

By the way, my name is Stefan. Sandy is my dog. Hence Sandybestdog. He doesn’t care that I deliver pizza. He likes that I work at night so I can take care of him during the day. He has an uncanny ability to know exactly when it’s 4:00. He knows that’s when the closing bell rings and he’s supposed to go on a walk. This is him.

  7. I'm sorry I didn't mean to belittle your idea. Taking small profits is perfectly fine, but you have to know when to take the loss.

  10. LOL, what an ass you are... When I graduated college I was working for less than $5.15 (after union dues). The highest paying job I've ever had was $18.04/hr. I "retired" at 27 and I guarantee I have more zeros in my account than you.

Dedication and determination are more likely to come from the gutter than the silver spoon up your ass. Enjoy your life of disappointment.
