Paris needs a good union rep "A 2003 accident in which a Detroit man riding his bike home from work was run down by a DDOT bus driven by Melvia Owens on Gratiot and permanently disabled. In her four years with the city, the bus driver had been involved in 30 crashes or claims, and in another 18 accidents in which no ticket was issued, according to court records. The woman still works as a bus driver, although the state suspended her license for nine months in 2004. The city paid the bicyclist $1.4 million." cont on link.. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070611/METRO/706110341
Yes I did point out the missing stop sign. They didn't care. More or less said it was my problem. Which it ended up being. I couldn't convince the judge either. Bunch of buttheads... The city, county or state didn't want to take any responsibility in this case.
Yes, there was three. Judge didn't believe any of us... He thought we made it up. "Stop signs just don't fall down around here"...
Exactly. In our state, up until a few months ago... they had school bus drivers driving around on suspended driving licenses, perverts who had just gotten out of jail, and others who never had a decent background check driving our kids around to school. They finally put in mandatory background checks done by the state themselves. Till now, they let the bus drivers send in their own documents which they could forge and fake. The one guy who was driving around on a suspended license had his back after waiting 6 months. He is now a bus driver again. I have a distinct feeling that it is hard to find school bus drivers... Either that or we need new lawmakers in our state.
There was suppposed to be 4 stops signs. It was a four way stop. Someone (I think it was the guys in the car in the middle of the street) had just knocked it down so you couldn't see it when you came down the road approaching the intersection. The reason I think it was the guys whose car I hit was because they were all laughing at the time thinking it was funny. I sure didn't think it was funny at the time.
The other three stop signs are up, it's obviously a four way stop, how do you get nailed for breaking the law? You can't be guilty of running a non-existent traffic sign. At the very least, the other driver's has contributory negligence thrown at him for pulling out from a stop sign in front of a moving vehicle which obviously had no intention of stopping. The stop sign requirement is not to simply stop and then pull out, it is to stop and then only proceed when safe to do so.
