PANIC - Why is media obsessed with anniversaries

Discussion in 'Wall St. News' started by trader_arb, Oct 19, 2007.

  1. "Stocks Sink on Black Monday Anniversary- AP"

Coincidentally, Oct 19th, 2006 Dow hits all time high and closes above 12,000 for first time. Oops wrong anniversary.

Will next Monday be a down day because its the 100th anniversary of the Panic of 1907 ? :D

  2. I think the important point might be, how will we record (or frame into our memory this Oct drop) when the media brings it up next year? What are the relevant points between this Oct and the one 20 years ago? Zip, nada? What will be the relationship between today and next year?

Point might be, people want to know why the market went down, and the news media obliges "Stocks Sink on Black Monday Anniversary- AP", with the perfect headline required for the impaired and attention deficit viewers.

  3. Thats really what I was getting at. When all else fails they can also blame oil / US dollar inflation to simplify.
