"Competence and personal achievement have to be primary considerations."

are you suggesting that these are the primary considerations when choosing a leader?

your post disproves your point ...

  2. What in my post disproves my point?

  3. You consider where someone attended school as an accurate measure of "competence and personal achievement"?
LMAO. I'd vote for a fireman before I'd vote for another Ivy League grad. and btw moron, it's ME who lives in a majority-minority neighborhood not you. I'm quite sure you're some suburban liberal pos......

You've gotta be kidding. A third of people pay no tax and others get their income taxed twice and you wonder why they have a problem with it?

If you can't figure that out......

  5. No, education (assuming it is not legacy education) is but one facet of achievement. I want somebody who is significantly above average in terms of achievement. It could be in business, science, chess, etc. The point being mediocre minds have no business running anything.

People who live in suburbs historically did it for many reasons not the last of which was "white flight". I don't live in a suburb I live in a city. And I said I am not a liberal I am a moderate democrat.

  6. LOL. Holy crap. You're the guy that's been saying to people 'I can buy you and sell you'?! Damn, I thought you were rich. Can I take you up on that 100:1 GWB IQ wager now? LOL.

P.S. No, I didn't expect you to see the irony in the OP.

  7. It's also interesting when the 'confronter' can't even parse the other person's statements.

  8. Pa(b)st, the discussion of 'progressive taxation' is not limited to income taxes. In fact, I didn't impose this limitation in the post your referred to. That limitation was imposed by you. Dividends, cap gains, consumption, income... all could be taxed progressively.

Original Post: "Isn't it ironic that the same rich white guys that have handed the 'Joe Sixpack' talking point down to Sarah Palin vociferously rail against progressive taxation as being class warfare?"

  9. I admit I'm skewed because I live in two metropolitan areas where "Joe Sixpack" is relatively affluent. Rural areas around Chicago too are booming via farm/grain prices. So by my limited experience Joe is drinking Beck's and the PBR Joe Sixpack is now Jose or Tyrone. More complicated yet, where "Joe" is still alive he's a social conservative.

One of the wild stats political scientists and sociologists don't like to mention is white America is more Republican than in any prior time in history.Think about it. It's inconceivable that an FDR would be elected today with the same all white electorate as the 1930's. An entire generation of white America came to reject socialistic big government spending policies. Today liberals are elected on the backs of minorities. Bush received over 60% of the 2004 white vote. Why? Because most whites-even the old school union whites-are increasingly investor class. Hence to much of "white America" taxes are becoming nothing more than wealth redistribution to minorities both domestically and globally.

America's cities tell the tale. How many white, property tax paying families are willing to send their kids to gang ridden schools? Those folks boogie to the 'burbs and then all of a sudden a city one third white struggles to fund tution for thousands of poor minority kids. Education costs are the welfare issue of tomorrow. There just isn't enough elasticity in this economy to make it work any longer. The takers out weigh the givers. Hence deficits. I'm steadfast that the Federal model is not just broke but totaled. I honestly believe there will be inflation of such magnitude that secession is inevitable. It may come quickly. Know what? It'll be a BLESSING. If a Chicago or L.A. could stop paying for Israel's defense and Taiwan's defense and Georgia's defense and instead use it's formally D.C. designated wealth to pay for it's own schools and under funded pension liabilities we'll again be in boom times. After one chapter is finished another starts. I see Palin as the only secession minded realist in America......

  10. Wealth? You're really out of touch oh aspirant of untold wealth. People are trying not to die this winter for what heating their homes is going to cost.
