He's a spammer. Stay away. Any company/product that has to troll forums and send PM's to people is scum: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=244176
This pairstrader135 guy is spamming PM. His pitch and web site is pretty lame. First note in the About us link: "industry veterans" + "most prestigious mathematicians in the world", back up you claims and provide a resume of the people involved! Second if you're trying to get clients by PM, you should allow them to reply by switching it on in your properties. HTM
I have been reading this wonderful threads from the very beginning and got impatient during the process and jumped all the way to the end. Just wondering how the original interlocutors Johnnysharp and Yobo are currently doing. I wish they are really doing well which will be a nice testament to the validility of the strategy and self-improvement as well as adaptation to changing market conditions.
Hi everyone, I have become more interested in position trading a pair, picking companies with strong fundamentals, good management and shorting weaker ones. I'm not even sure if this would be considered pairs trading. I'm new to this style. Does anyone here take this approach? Regards
reminiscing (but there is something constructive buried in here...HOT Long HST Short......one of my very best trades, ongoing now and more to run) I have not been to this thread in a long time. It had an incredible important value to me a few years ago when I discovered it. I thought it had over a hundred pages of posts. Now less than 70. Although, I may have changed MY settings to have more posts appear on one page. (I am just now going through the learning curve of using ET.) I won't bug the old timers on this thread with the question of why it has died. It is my responsibility to go back and research why the slow down. It seemed to me at one time Johnny was scaling down his interest in continuing to journal here in pursuit of other interests. He is on to somewhere else, I suppose, and I will go back to research it. My appreciation to him for starting this thread. I will very much miss this thread. Perhaps some will start a new one of similar style the way Johnny did that attracted good folks. I was just a lurker, but going forward I would like to have more visibility to contribute some good nominations for trades. I have recently posted one with charts on a trade I started Aug 1. It can be found on the Trading forum under the thread Charts of Note. My style requires finding charts that allow me to swing trade, although scalping is still in my blood as many pairs have of my longer term trades included a rolling spread that begs to be taken advantage of. The post relating to the above-stated trade originates Aug 1 (look for my name): Forum: Trading Thread: Charts of Note http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=237628&perpage=40&pagenumber=6 I was unaware of pairs in 2007 when I started something that later morphed into conventional pairs trading. I was unaware anyone else was doing my self-created Axe trading, though I suspect someone was. At the proper moment, I would go Long GS while it was tanking and Short MER or LEH at the same time. It was a HOOT ! It worked at least 80% of the time, and I was refining and getting better over time. Then one day.....no more MER or LEH. They disappeared ! It was from that robust, day trading-like experience I eventually self taught myself pairs trading by mid-'08. I never heard of it being done. But as I was enjoying success, I figured someone must do something like this. I gave myself the acid test by seeing how well I could pair trade in 2009. (I called it hedge trading. What did I know ?) As it turned out, I could not trade the last three months of that year. With 45 trades, 92% were gains. Now mind you, I was prejudiced to make gains, regardless how I got them (how small they were). I generally ignored how well a trade could mature and got out of the vast majority of them way prematurely. But I tracked the pairs after I got out and was overwhelmed at how successful this pairs trading could be. It was in the spring of that same year 2009 I stumbled on to EliteTrader and Johnny's journal. It was the first time I found someone pairs trading. From it, my knowledge grew, resources grew, and my successes grew. What never changed was my simplicity. I call it comic book simple. No software, no subscriptions. After 2009, knowing I had a safety net to come back to, I ranged in experimentation. I did badly trading ETF against ETF and stocks from different sectors that appeared to be correlated. Back to the one that brung me to the dance. My only change now from 2009 is to stay in trades longer and put on layers when trades go against me (after first researching my charts again). Second and their layers are marvelous. To repeat, I would like to see another thread with solid contributors providing nominations. Life is in the way now for me to start one or even do much trading. There is wonderful talent out there, and it would be great to see a new thread, or even anyone without talent but dedicated to a thread for this purpose.
