Hi Guys, I'm a little upset today so I'm gonna vent......lol , has anyone found a software package that can pretty much do what ptf does... I'm still using ptf but I'm using an older version because it seems that every time they do what they call an "upgrade" because they are "listening" to their users they take something from the program that is already there and being used by other users... The latest thing is that you can set different parameters by sector or group which is great... for people that use that... but, they took away the ability to change the default settings on all groups all at once for the people that don't have different settings for different groups to do the "upgrade"... Now if I want to change the settings I have to go in manually and change all the settings one by one for each group ( i have a lot of groups).... that's very time consuming especially when I need to do testing on different settings for all the groups. I have to change them all one by one, then test then go back and change them again... then when Im done, change them back to the settings I use... one by one !!!! Now that I downgraded, I'm afraid if yahoo makes a change to their quotes, my version of ptf that I use now will not operate anymore and I'll be forced to "upgrade" to the newer ptf version. Another problem for me which is unrelated to their upgrade is an upgrade id like to see... if you have open positions in many pairs like I do (over 40) you have to go in and search for each pair one by one everyday and scroll to see and analyze each pair. very time consuming especially when the software gets slow and I have to wait for it to scroll.. That slow part might be from my pc, not sure but I just got a new computer quad core with 12 gigs of ram and will be installing ptf on it over the weekend so I hope I can speed things up a bit. Anyway, It would be great to have a way that you can add the pairs you have positions in into a list with a check box. Or even a search feature would help where you enter the pair into a box, click enter and wallah, there it is.... But my main beef is the feature they took away, the ability to change all the pair settings with one simply default change setting...I've never seen a company add options to their software at the expense of other options. Adding new features is fine if you keep features that are already there and people use and are used to. Another option they took away was the portfolio tracking part because some people didn't like it... Sure it wasn't great but it did the trick and I used to use it. The people who didn't like it can simply not use it. why take it away when some people used it to please those who didn't use it. Not logical...lol Anyway, I see the writing on the wall, this software is becoming very un-user friendly for my needs and if yahoo makes any changes to their quotes I will be forced to upgrade and I will have to eventually move on... any suggestions from fellow pair traders ? I need something easy and intuitive like ptf since i cant code. I've searched but cant seem to find anything.... I may have to hire someone to write something for me...
I've read through the thread and it seems that a few users have created their own software. Not sure if they're willing to share.
It is possible to plot correlation on daily charts. Many packages allow two or more data series on a chart and offer a correlation function between them. I don't understand what I am missing.
Hi Andy, I doubt it... Thats one thing traders don't do is share...lol Now don't get me wrong, I really like ptf... I was just kind of venting and worrying out loud all at the same time.
I recently d/l a PTF trial and I have a question for those who purchased the software. Do you need to be connected to the internet to log in/open the software? I ask because there site was down this weekend and I couldn't get into my trial. Now I know the trial calls back to there servers, but does the full version? My concern is that when I purchase the software the owners are gonna pull the plug (as my luck goes) and my "lifetime license" doesn't really last a lifetime. I sent them an email but so far haven't heard from them.
I think it does because the license number needs to be checked to make sure that you are not running the same license on multiple computers? I am not an expert on that though. On another note I've pretty much out grown PTF and if anyone is interested its gonna be in the classifieds or PM me, if you get my drift. As for why? Because everything can be done with Excel, for those who have the time. But there is nothing wrong with purchasing the software if you want an immediate tool and dont want to build your own. I honestly think as for the software with all its flaws, works exactly like its supposed to. Their PTA alerts, thats another story, dont bother, not only are most pairs not shortable, its also not scalable. But the software shouldnt be sullied by all the recent crap, by Jared.
DGUNZ, I think that last statements is a bit harsh. I think Jared's auto robot that he recently released has real potential.
