  1. Ridiculously cheap.

Beachfront house, not condo, for less than 200 grand.
300k gets you a beachfront villa. I'm talking large home.

Decent condos with security can be had as low as 30k.

I am just renting cause I will only be there a max of a few years. I pay $400 per month, which includes all utils (electricity, phone, cable TV). Broadband is another 30 per month. Rent fee also includes maid service, and is fully furnished, beachfront, in a major resort town which is primarily European. The entire North coast is one resort after another. This is actually the #1 Caribbean tourist destination. Yep, more than Jamaica, etc. The country as a whole is very poor, but the people are great.

Look at Juanperdomo.com for real estate. He is the most reputable around. Many Yanks, Canadians, and Euros use him to buy homes. He knows all the legal issues there, etc. He is a Century 21 dealer.

  2. Also, if you look at the real estate page, it starts from most expensive on down, and most properties sell well below listed prices.

Lots of other real estate sites for the DR on the web also.

Time zone is one hour later than EST.
