I'm not sure on how property taxes work in California, but here in Orlando, a house like that would cost you $440k in property taxes alone each year. Ouch.
I looks like property taxes in Cali are more like 1%. Here in Florida they are 2%, but we don't have any state income tax so I guess it all balances out.
