Overnight stop on an ES option

Discussion in 'Options' started by dcwriter2, Jun 23, 2019.

  1. It's on Globex, I know, and I use IB, but why if I place a stop loss on, say, a short put to be bought back at a higher price, does it tell me that it won't be placed until 8:30 AM. Is this a Globex or an IB thing? And how do you hedge overnight risk on ES options if you can't use stops until the markets open?

Your ability to trade outside RTH is dependent on you specifying that in your order specs. So, 'elect' this in your [Global Config} set-up. (There are a few places which you need to hit, too -- be patient and search 'em all out.)

This is a broker protection they put in place to protect you and I'd say it make sense. A STOP limit should still be offered. The CME offers both and does not have this restriction. You should know that the CME charges $1000 to investigate any execution you file a complaint on. You pay that win or lose your argument.
