Mr. Pro Choice Trump better stay far away from this issue or the Dems will have a field day showing all his past comments as a liberal on this issue...
I don't know about that. One can be reasonably pro choice and still horrified at these new laws. The left was upset at the sight of Romney pushing granny off a cliff. I would think seeing an infant killed in cold blood would be an attention grabber. What these lunatics are endorsing is too horrifying to imagine. The left, upset when schoolchildren get gunned down, but okay with murdering a live infant.
Yes one can be pro choice (me) and be horrified at these laws. But I have a feeling Mr. Trump will not handle it well (hunch based on past experience). He will never win NY and the States he does win will never pass such a law. his best play is to let the NY Sen and Cong GOP use it for next primary season.
The Virginia bill was defeated. Most people don't agree with the bill. For some perspective, here is public opinion on abortion. Trimesters Still Key to U.S. Abortion Views BY LYDIA SAAD June 13, 2018 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans' support for the legality of abortion varies sharply when they are asked to evaluate it on a trimester basis, which is consistent with the pattern Gallup has found for more than 20 years. Six in 10 U.S. adults think abortion should generally be legal in the first three months of pregnancy. However, support drops by about half, to 28%, for abortions conducted in the second three months, and by half again, to 13%, in the final three months. https://news.gallup.com/poll/235469/trimesters-key-abortion-views.aspx
I was asking if, as a pro choice libertarian, you would support laws banning this sort of thing. I am not clear where libertarians draw the line on many issues.
The current view of the leftist on having children. Case one. Have a baby, refuse to determine whether it's a boy or girl, raise child as an "it" condemning the kid to a life of mental confusion. Case two. Have a baby, decide you don't want it and have the child killed. And this is what they call compassion.
First, all libertarians should be pro-choice by definition. I'm not talking about the fakes like Piezoe who claim they are libertarian but then support clearly obvious fiscal and big government liberal positions. My position (which I believe aligns with the libertarian one) would be to support legislation against this type of abortion (right before birth) because - at that point - it is medically proven that the fetus is actually an unborn human being with its own rights. So you're not taking away the right of the individual who is carrying the baby, but protecting the right of the baby to live. Now, the next question is undoubtedly "where does that line cross?" and that question, I leave to medical science. But wherever medical science determines it is where the libertarian should be for the right of the child over the mother. Prior to that, it is the mother's choice. Does that make sense?
Yes it makes sense. I'm not as black and white on this as many of my Evangelical friends. This sort of thing poses a terrible moral dilemma, at least if one has any humanity. The governor of Virginia is a physician, actually a pediatrician I believe, and he said it would be appropriate to decide after the baby is delivered what to do with it. Now in fairness, he seemed to be talking about severely abnormal babies and probably many of them would not survive in any case. But it was nevertheless chilling to hear him talk. The same state will probably put you in prison if you euthanized a litter of unwanted puppies.
As far as I am aware, euthanizing anyone is illegal in Virginia and just about everywhere else. I think - haven't really investigated this before. Wasn't this the whole reason why they threw Kevorkian in jail in the first place?
