About the same. Major trade and national deficits. Hallowed out economy. A major real estate bubble. Overrun by immigrants in Toronto and Vancouver. We don't keep race-correlated statistics as the ministry of truth finds this problematic. So we go by the word on the street. And the word on the street is half newcomers game the system. It's obvious. We've got millions of immigrants working low to no skilled jobs. We don't need to import truck drivers and pizza delivery boys from India. We've got enough Canadians unemployed who will work these jobs
This is what sickens me. We are one of the most generous countries in the world, in terms of immigration. And what do we get in return? Dead citizens. Planes flown into buildings. Illegals who milk the system.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So you are advocate to allow "Only the best, brightest and richest" to immigrate to Canada or USA because is ok for your country to benefit from the immigrants education and wealth, but not invest in your own country education and healthcare?
You're talking out yer ass again. America spends more on education and healthcare nominally, and per capita, then any other nation in the world.
Don't let the truth get in the way of your rhetoric. I live in Toronto and it's far, far better then you seem to want to tell people. Many of my friends and colleagues are immigrants, professionals, and they embrace and enjoy life in Canada. There is no "major deficit", in fact the federal government ran a small surplus last year. There is no real estate bubble at all. Demand for housing in Toronto reflects that it's one of the nicest places to live in the world, so prices had to go up. Most Canadian real estate markets outside of the main cities are actually fairly modestly priced. Immigrants are a good thing; I have no idea why you harbour such a hatred towards them or why you are on the street so much. But that's not the life most people I know live. Perhaps you just hang around with a sketchy crowd and of course some of them will game the system. Maybe you struggle in a mediocre job or live in a struggling town or neighborhood. What I can tell though is unlike most Canadians who love their country, you don't, so maybe move out you seem more American anyways and have failed to assimilate properly into our culture. The government doesn't stress out about "race-correlated" stats because they don't need to; people in Canada for the most part get along and respect other cultures. There is no general fear or growing sentiment in Canada that immigration is to be feared, or nonstop racist talk about blacks or any other ethnic group or skin colour. As with any country, there will always be pockets of trouble and some neighborhoods that are poor and have some crime. But the fact is these problems are much smaller in Canada then almost anywhere in the world. The economy could be better, but 2008/2009 barely touched Canada at all and all things being considered ( including lower personal income tax rates ), the worst one could say is our economy hasn't improved much since the 1980s and 1990s. This contrasts with the US who were flying high and are now struggling on many fronts. I suspect you just like trolling on here, but I won't let your extreme negativity about Canada go without giving more reasonable people a more accurate picture about life in Canada. Poll the majority here, and you'll see that Canadians think this is the best country in the world.
I don't have a problem with Canada or Canadians, but let's get real. Canada is basically a third world country. It is dependent largely on natural resource extraction and agriculture and fishing. It has the good fortune to be populated largely with reasonably intelligent people of European extraction, with some notable pockets of Asian immigrants, again mostly intelligent and fairly affluent. Canada, like Europe, largely depends on the US for its defense. It lacks the large minority underclass of the US. The state it most resembles is probably North Dakota. It doesn't have nearly the same scale of urban underclass we have. As a consequence, it doesn't have to finance our enormous defense budget or welfare class and can put the money to more productive uses. Nothing wrong with any of that, but I wish you Canadians would be a little less smug.
It's actually the large minority underclass you mention that makes the US look like a third world country.
I will agree with most of what you wrote here. I have enjoyed my many years of working in Toronto which comes to a finish at the end of July. However you fail to acknowledge the failures of the healthcare system in Canada even when presented with reports from your own government regarding private & public care. You also fail to recognize the statistics show that Canada has three times the hate crime rate of the U.S. - not all your permanent residents are respecting others in Canada.
Canadians aren't smug, they know what they have and it's good. Your ideas about how the world works are ignorant. You have a large "urban underclass" because you designed your economic system to have one. You need Canada ( and other first world western countries ) as a friend as much as we need you. Like many Americans, you vastly overestimate your military strength, the world is a big place. If you create conflicts all over the place, of course you have to spend money defending yourself and paying for those offensives. Again, you chose that destiny. Pay for it. In some ways, as long as you think Canada is some "North Dakota" with igloos, well, the good part is you won't have any interest in coming here. Surprisingly, most US companies don't agree with you, and a ton of immigrants don't agree with you either. Meanwhile, more and more people are seriously questioning the US and it's values, and quality of life for those who live there. The bloodshed and poverty of the "underclass" is very third world in nature, and leaves jokers like you pretending it's not "your" country or "your" people doing it. I'm sorry we can't relate 100% to that reality, because we designed our country to have a safety net and respect diversity not confront it.
Third World Country? You really need to get out and see the world.. Where do you live, Baltimore? I've never found Canadians smug...Sad your life revolves around the news cycle and Internet...Incomprehensible demorilization.
The health care system has never failed me or anyone I know. Our costs are significantly less then what most Americans face. Across the board, Canadians live on average 2 years longer then Americans. You have far more obese people. You have uninsured people who can face devastating costs on any serious illness or possibly be denied treatment. I'm really not seeing the advantage to American style health care. Perhaps it's good for the richest 1%, those to whom money does not matter. I'll give you that, because isn't that really the American way these days ? The top 1% is doing fine.
