You made your choice, and have to deal with the good and bad of your choice. For example, you feel required to carry a weapon at all times. This is totally unnecessary in Canada. When Florida real estate prices crashed in 2009, some people I'm sure were hurt by that. A home owner in Ottawa hasn't seen a drop in real estate prices since the early 1990s. Public schools are in general of much higher quality then most US schools. For those who have economic or health problems, the safety net will help them out; I'm not sure it's all that good for many Americans who encounter similar problems. It's not rare to see some pretty disturbing news from Florida the last few years; the Zimmerman case for example was a huge red flag about the legal system in Florida and what it means for some to live in Florida. I have no idea about the economy in Florida, although that real estate crash suggests there are some issues. Lot of tourism of course in Florida, Canadians like to visit but most don't want to live in Florida except some seniors. With Canadian winters being more moderate now and Florida experiencing a lot of natural disasters, even that aspect is less important.
Can you explain why all the Canadian citizens come to the U.S. for medical services because of the long waits in Canada? 9 months for an MRI - unbelievable. I spend every week up here listening to people complain about the Canadian medical system - which is also the topic of many news articles. When they aren't bitching about the medical system, they are outlining their future plans to retire to Florida. Moderate Canadian winters? Not in the last two years in the eastern part of Canada. These have been the worst winters since the 1970s. Florida has not had a hurricane hit it in over a decade.
So you the inside of a few office buildings, maybe have lunch at a few places, and many of your work colleagues may also be transient in nature. I've worked in consulting in Toronto, I know what is involved. You really have a superficial look at the city.
I am talking bout Canadian citizens who have lived here their entire lives and work directly for the banks (many for decades). The transients (consultants) don't really care or have an opinion. Do I need to re-post the lengthy list of articles from all the Canadian papers about the long waiting times for medical care in Canada, and the endless list of other problems. Can you explain why 10% of the patients at our top local hospitals in RTP, North Carolina (such as Duke) are from Canada?
Same reason some wealthy families hired handicapped persons to accompany them at Disneyland: they didn't want to wait their turn.
That was one great thing about Ottawa. The fishing was fantastic and Gatineu wilderness is fun for hiking xskiing kayaks and fishing. The ice was so bad, i needed to wear ice spikes to walk around the city and its relatively flat. surf
I was literally shocked by the shear numbers of freaks. It was great to find out they are mostly peaceful-- otherwise that place would be crime city!
My experience was different. I was expcting terrible medical care but i was quite pleased overall. Everything was smooth and easy -- including baby birth and minor surgery for me. Not sure if our higher end central bank credentials helped in this manner or not. But what i heard about the ca medical establishment and scialized medicine n general was not my experience. surf
Yeah, Florida is horrible. That's why there are more canadians there than mexicans in California. GWB, canadians in Florida are kind of like your New Jersey refugees in Cary.
Given enough time here, most Americans would love our health care system. All you've done is highlight the habit that workers have of bitching about things when they get bored at work. As I've said in other posts, the US would do well to emulate our system, but instead chooses to mostly ignore it and pursue less fair, costly choices. I have no idea why some Canadians are in RTP. That suggests there are far more rich Canadians out there then I realized. Because almost everything in the US is about money. If money could solve everything, the US wouldn't have some of the worst teenage pregnancy rates in the western world, and the sometimes absurd levels of poverty and violent crime. Your country is obviously not working well for everyone is it ? And why are you commuting here to work ? Surely the US has enough opportunity and you hate it here, don't come here then.
