Supposedly, the core theme of Christopher Cross's "Sailing" is the yearning for freedom, escape, and solace as depicted through the act of sailing and finding a sense of peace and self-discovery amidst life's difficulties. This instrumental is my own attempt at representing the freedom and tranquility that can often be offered by an ocean voyage.
This recording embodies my concept of "the best drummers of all time" comprised of a unique musical ensemble who blend the traditions of Asian Indian with West African music and the improvisational elements of American Jazz; aiming for vibrant, innovative music that transcends cultural boundaries to appeal to a diverse audience and foster cross-cultural friendships, with skilled musicians from both Asian Indian and West African backgrounds as well as experienced Jazz instrumentalists, ensuring an authentic and dynamic collaboration.
This song first existed as an instrumental composition, after which I immediately had a concept for a simple little lyric, which I wrote in only about two minutes.
