Huh? Stats being put out suggest that close to 90% of those who signed up are getting subsidies. Some people are paying as little as $2/month!!!

Shelley Dayman, who lives in an Orlando suburb, has struggled for years to manage her disease, in part because loves to bake and eat her sweet creations.

She recently gained insurance under the Affordable Care Act, finding a Humana plan that costs less than $2 a month thanks to a $574 tax credit.

Meanwhile, others are dealing with price sticker shock ... people who had policies that were cancelled.

    Unaffordable

I thought the American Dream meant buying a home. I have learned that it means having to buy health insurance.

I recently received a new plan from my insurance carrier, since my current one does not meet the requirements of the not-so Affordable Care Act.

My current plan that was $471 a month is now $1,374. Where I live, that is a mortgage payment.

The good news is I now have maternity and well baby coverage (I cannot have children), and I also have coverage for the children under 19 that I do not have. And in case I decide to pick up a drug habit, I have substance abuse coverage.

That is the American Dream in the eyes of Obamacare.

By the way, if anyone is hiring and the job has health insurance coverage, I'll take it.

And the article was right when it mentioned people with iPhones and 50 inch TV's who CHOOSE to not pay health care premiums are basically irresponsible.

The opinion piece's title says "stupid... can't make it pay", and the text says the same type of people who couldn't pay before (the poor, presumably) can't pay now. So either the article is calling those people stupid, or it's calling Obamacare stupid and telling us something about the poor we already knew, and confirming the need for subsidies.

Maybe it's calling BOTH Odumbocare stupid and the people who choose to buy 'toys' before they pay for health insurance stupid as well. And I think most intelligent and responsible people would agree.

And if people can afford iPhones then they can afford a few $$ for health care. Lots of these people are getting large subsidies. Do you think the 62 year old can afford to pay a measly $2 per month? While taxpayers pick up $574 of her premiums. Do you understand that the lower ones income is the BIGGER their subsidy is? To the point where it's all but free to some people.

" Do you understand that the lower ones income is the BIGGER their subsidy is? To the point where it's all but free to some people."

Of course I understand it, and I fully support it. I hope a lot of their ailments get early care, so that they don't show up in emergency rooms later when those ailments have ballooned into costly interventions.

If we don't like the social, economic, and political ramifications of a two-tier society where the poor outnumber the wealthy ten to one, then let's not have a two-tier society where the poor outnumber the wealthy ten to one

  6. The poor ain't what they used to be. In today's entitlement culture, far too many are lazy parasites and/or "victims" of their own bad decisions. Obama's only made this worse by doing everything in his power to transfer as much wealth as possible from the productive to the unproductive.

Maybe the productive are a little too productive and the unproductive require more assistance to gain productivity. Assistance in the form of redistribution.

  9. And what have we gotten for the $ trillions we've wasted on welfare, other than an entitlement culture and more people on the dole?
