Options scalping

  1. Not really, because they don't move as much on the moves I'm seeking.

  2. Didn't trade today -- taking the holiday off to relax.

    [swing/lotto, about -65% as I write this]

    Stray thoughts:
    • CLDR was a news headline scalp that didn't work out. I always size these relatively small (about 1/4 typical size). I'm stubbornly holding onto this in case more news comes out later this week.

    • NFLX faked me out so I took the small loss. I resisted the revenge trade, even though I noticed a decent bounce spot around 542 that would have worked out (in hindsight). For psychological reasons, I try not to trade the same name more than once per day, even though I might continue to monitor/analyze it.

    • AAPL moved up slowly, and my thesis was correct, but its premiums dried up, so I just got out of it.

    • I had my eye on ZM off the open, but whiffed on it by hesitating and focusing on the wrong names instead. Oh well.

    • Not the most constructive day for my P&L, but I view today as more of a warm-up day because I took yesterday off.

I bet you are leaving substantial profits on the table (like 20percent of your pnl) trading the options vs the cash.

    • Those breakout plays on NET and AMZN were way too aggressive. I need to be more patient off the open.

    Stray thoughts:
    • Way too slow to cut the BA fake-out. It baited me hard and I cut it too late.

    • Completely whiffed on a KODK scalp. I literally stood still and watched the 9.5 calls go from 0.25 x 0.30 to 0.40 x 0.45 in 10-15 seconds.

    • Edit: I also whiffed on TWTR puts that I was watching. I had an entry order pulled up at around 0.20, but doubted myself because of that market rally past the big century numbers. That really shouldn't have been relevant, because TWTR had zero relative strength. Anyway, they ended up hitting my target of 0.27 without me (I see now they're 0.31 x 0.33).

    • I have to head out early for non-trading stuff, so unfortunately I won't be able to try any fun Friday afternoon plays.

    • Very happy that I had my discipline to cut this AMD. "Either you're right, or right out." Good to keep practicing that muscle memory or reflex or whatever you want to call it.

    • Glad I cut this NIO fake-out. It can run back to HOD for all I care, but it didn't fit the play I was making.
