Options on Futures @ Tax Reporting

Does anyone know how options on futures are taxed?

Do you need to report them like options on equities and list out all trades?

Do you need to report them like futures and have a single line item on your 1040?

I know I can ask a tax advisor but chances are they don't know either unless they specialize in this.

 

Options on futures and futures have identical tax treatment.

 

Options on futures are 1256 contracts. They should be reported and taxed like futures.
