option splits

I sold some july 70 puts on NUE in April. At the end of May they were split 2:1 for July 35 puts.

I've never heard before of splits on options. Is this a common occurrence?

 

Yep, when the stock splits (or the company issues stock dividends), the options are adjusted, or "made whole" as they say.
