It definitely does matter (depending on the strategy), there might be strategies out there that will work on any timeframe, but not too many ... My strategy works best on 1 timeframe and i would never have known that if i didn't test multiple timeframes ... Not trying to be offensive but you are crazy stupid to limit yourself to just one time frame when you are still developing a strategy. If you can create a strategy and test it on 1 timeframe it isn't much of an effort to test it on multiple timeframes. Why limit yourself in such a way? Creating a profitable strategy is difficult enough, you just made it a 1000 times more difficult for yourself.
Thanks for the response DevBru, You are right, I am just being stubborn. Thank you for expressing your thoughts. padutrader made the same advice as well, so I appreciate it. I appreciate your advice and I will write "Test the strategy(s) for 100 trades on 5 different timeframes (5, 4, 3, 2, 1 minute)" in my To Do list. How does that sound? Do you have any other advice for me please as far as testing and development strategy? It is best I get all the details before testing. Thank you sir.
Don't forget to check higher time frames as well. You might just find your strategy can perform as good or even better at higher timeframes and another advantage is that it is way less stressful to trade higher timeframes compared to anything below the 15 minute timeframe.
Hello DevBru, Thanks for the response. To do reduce stress or overtrading, I only focus on 1-3 trades per day. I appreciate the advice.
Hello Ivy, I am using the 3 minute bars. Yes, range bars I have thought of using because now I trading the actual price and not the close of bar. I can make decision based on range bar close. There are those times when big bars causes entry far from stop loss.
I like range bars cause i feel they filter out some noise when it comes for very short term trading. video here
%% 3# minute chart has helped more on entraNce , rather than exit, or as work chart.Too much comissions or now ,with low or no comissions= too much slippage. Terrible idea; unless you are a Market Maker + you are NOT,, are you Simple LM?? PS; ''break eveN'' is a lie, unless some else pays your poWer bill+ PROPERTY TAXES + FOOD+ gasoline.....................................................................................................60% small losses could work; i would rather have small loss,[ if posssible + some times its NOT] just not 60 losses in a row- i would not have that, the way i trendtrade/inVest.
