Opening Orders - 2009

  1. We only use listed stocks, not ETF's. The "opening cross" is not the same as an "opening only" order on the NYSE. Generally hundred thousand or more trade at the open.

  2. Last 5 days of this boot camp results.

    100 opening fills

    80 winners

    20 loser or break even.

All goot.....however, only a net of about 4 cents per share. Newer people tend to cut profits a bit too soon. They will now have access to automated programs that should help tremendously in this regard.

  3. Don,

How many symbols will the automated program play? for stocks of not very high volume, How can you make sure they will not stampede each other?

  4. The traders choose how many symbols to enter...generally between 15-40 or so. We focus primarily on liquid stocks, many in S&P 500.

By any chance, does anyone have a spreadsheet showing daily long/short results for ~1 year that they would be willing to share with me? I have an edge in the ES around the open and I want to see if it could be better applied to opening orders than to trading the ES outright. Thanks.

  10. Would anyone care to state the specific mechanics of the Opening Orders strategy, or direct me to the posts where it's specified (assuming such posts exist)?

    thanks,
