What we need to remember is that the lockdown did nothing to slow the spread of the virus------The American People made that happen by being careful. No lockdown was needed for that to happen. In any event, there are tons of people out shopping, working etc. and mitigating. I trust The American People-----I trust Trump.

  2. Yeh, that's why we have flu season every year.

Sweden that has many more deaths than its neighbors with a death rate of over 10% of the cases --- is a very poor example of a reasonable COVID-19 response. Sweden has 120 deaths per million vs. 94 per million in the U.S. All of its other COVID-19 stats look equally dismal. Among the worst in the world.

Can we just start openly saying Birx is a failure yet?

Her job is to coordinate the national response and it’s obvious there is no coordinated effort. Her and Trump promised a website to streamline patients into testing sites, never happened. Last night she admitted the reliance on private labs to develop and process tests has been a waste and will not accommodate reopening the country. The national phases plan she rolled out was trash and states formed compacts to protect themselves against the federal reopening.

Some of the states have put forward reasonable plans to "open" that goes in stages. However the starting point to move forward is wide-scale testing and contact tracing. The U.S. currently does not have the necessary number of COVID-19 tests available to perform wide-scale testing and has done no formal contact tracing whatsoever. We can't even get across the line at this point to pass the entry criteria for re-opening the economy.

  6. You fault Trump for not listening to the expertes and for allegedly always being on the verge of firing or dismissing them.

Then when he works with them and they jointly develop a plan that clearly shows their input and influence, you trash the shiite out of them.

Its all about the election for you and your ilk.

  7. Yeh, I am somewhat okay with those statements. I support some aggressive, unpretty shutdown stuff upfront as long as there is a rational basis for it. We are truly gaining on testing and equipment however raggedy that process is and those are tools to support gradual re-opening.

But this happy horseshit supported by Rahm Emmanual's brother for example, and a couple people here about not opening the economy for the next 12-18 months in any degree is a non-starter for me.

Sweden also is no example I am interested in because I support high levels of mitigation. So I am done with looking at them, but I am done with looking at countries that are on total shutdown too. I will be focused now on the few european and other countries doing partial openings to see what the learnings are there for us.

Love it when I see the simplistic static view of folks discussing Sweden and how bad it is. What you are leaving out is the indirect "lockdown" deaths and malaise in countries with lockdowns. The toll taken on countries and states that were locked is massive and will continue far into the future. In the meantime, Sweden has built up more herd immunity and continues on with their toes tapping.

By the way, Italy had a lot more deaths per million than Sweden and also has the "lockdown" malaise and death, so they have a double whammy. Locking down Italy did absolutely nothing to slow the spread of the virus. Sweden, South Dakota et al are models of how this should have went. Without a vaccine, there has to be some badness---

Mitigation can be done without a lockdown. The American People have shown that. Lockdowns are unconstitutional anyway. Governors do not have the authority to tell people that they cannot come out and assemble. No one will probably call them on it, but it's a fact.
