Canada has three tiers of tariffs ready; the last level if necessary is on $150B in trade, and I would imagine that's on the Heavy Oil. Trump has no idea what is about to hit him ( nor do some of his clueless cult on here ).
Actually most Canadians are far smarter and educated than you will ever be. I can walk circles around a fool like you it's not even a challenge . Go ahead try the 25% tariffs on Canada because of some miniscule amount of drugs coming from Canada. Talk about stupid Donnie can't even come up with a good excuse for his dumb ass policy ideas.
You really are clueless. Trade between Canada and the US is massive in size and impacts many millions of people on both sides of the border. If Trump proceeds as planned, you'll see a ton of American companies, politicians, and employees complaining abut the fallout the next few months. I don't expect a lightweight like you to understand any of this even some decent traders on here don't understand the economy or international trade. There are states that get 60% of all this Oil from Canada, refine it, and sell it to consumers. They can't get that Oil anywhere else at that discounted price, US new sources are mostly expensive projects, and adding a 25% tariff would go straight to gas prices within months. Oil is already close to $80 again just on the rumours.
https://nypost.com/2025/02/02/us-news/shopify-ceo-defends-trump-tariff-demands-slams-trudeau/ CEO of Canada’s 2nd-biggest company defends Trump’s tariff demands, slams Trudeau for not stopping trade war The CEO of Canada’s second-largest publicly traded company says Canadians want their government to do all the things that President Trump is demanding — and slammed outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for not preventing the trade war. Trump, 78, on Saturday, signed an executive order to slap 25% across-the-board tariffs on America’s northern neighbor, citing its failure to meet his demands on helping stop the fentanyl and illegal immigration trade. “Canada thrives when it works with America together. Win by helping America win. Trump believes that Canada has not held its side of the bargain,” Tobi Lutke, who co-founded Shopify, wrote on X. “These are things that every Canadian wants its government to do, too. These are not crazy demands, even if they came from an unpopular source. These tariffs are going to be devastating to so many people’s lives and small businesses.”
It's true that the United States can not get that type of discounted oil anywhere else. Since the 1990's, Canada has strategically become the largest single source of discounted oil and other energy products (e.g. gas and electricity) to the United States at discounted prices. Another issue, Canada's oil executives donated +170 million dollars to U.S. Republicans and Conservative candidates...most of those Canadian donators are very upset for being stabbed in the back by Trump. In my opinion, those Canadian oil executive deserve what they got when they decided to sleep with someone who's a 34x convicted felon and wannabe dictator. Politics on both sides of the border is a dirty word. Yet, Canada needs to be very smart about their tariffs because U.S. Oil giants in bed with Trump have their fingerprints all over the Oil pipelines in Canada flowing to the United States. In my opinion it will come down to public opinion among Republicans and Democrats who voted for Trump or did not vote for Harris when they see rising gas prices at the pump especially when going into the spring/summer traveling months because one of Trump's biggest advantage in the vote was the "Cost of Living"...Trump promised to bring it DOWN...not UP. Today, Trump gave a warning and its the same warning the past week...to get what they want...American's will feel the pain of the tariffs. That pain will come at a very bad time because America already has skyrocketing credit card debt on its consumer tied to the "cost of living". It will be a nightmare for consumers if China, Canada, and Mexico decided to band together to hurt consumers in America with strategic tariffs. On a side note, due to the tariff threats...immigration of Americans moving to Canada has increased along with investments and dollars from America flowing to Canada to take advantage of the increasing volatility about tariffs. I myself with bank accounts in France, Canada, and the United States...I've moved a good chunk of American dollars to my Canada bank accounts to take advantage of the currency exchange rate during the tariff war. Also, a Canadian friend who's a real estate agent and a dual citizen of both Canada and the United States told me today that he has a 10 fold increase in Americans looking to buy homes in the United States if the 30 day pause on tariffs works in Canada's favor. Simply, Americans with money plan to spend their U.S. dollars in Canada and not in the United States. wrbtrader
I meant to say... 10 fold increase in Americans looking to buy homes in Canada if the 30 day pause on tariffs works in Canada's favor. Simply, Americans with money plan to spend their U.S. dollars in Canada and not in the United States. Yet, it will have very little impact on the U.S. housing market except maybe new homes that will be paying higher prices to build those new homes with lumber. wrbtrader
