One year hold on deposits?

Is this the norm now? Which companies don't do this?

what kind of business can you run passively while trading? or should this be a new thread?

 

From what I understand, CBSX firms require a lockup of initial deposit for a year since you are not licensed and the lockup differentiates a professional trader from a retail one, as was explained to me by a CBSX firm.
