Threading allows things to run in parallell. NT7 has limited use of threading if at all, so while a chart "hangs", you cannot edit indicator-scripts. NT8 introduces more threading, so while a chart hangs, you usually can edit and compile indicator-scripts and other stuff too. However, the usage of threads aren't always without race conditions, so introduces side-effects such as differences in which draw objects are drawn on top of others, which log lines are logged first etc. It's annoying, but most users won't know why or how to fix the nuances.
Pertinent thread... https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/software-used-to-trade-jack-hershey-methods.97684/ @stepan7 has a full "suite" of JH stuff for NT7. I may be able to help for SierraChart. Another disciple recently contacted me in your same situation, moving from TN... Last chat, about a week ago, he is moving to MultiCharts and looking for referrals for custom code.
thank you both . NT is not really an option for me and i'm looking to switch within the platforms my broker is supporting. currently looking into Sierra, motive wave and trading view. it might also be that my problems will be solved just by switching from Rithmic to CQG and keeping TN..... really appreciate the help. change is hard sometimes
Tradingview with CQG is pretty stable. More stable than Tradovate with CQG. If you go that route, I can share my scripts. They will technically degap but not visually.
Unrelated to the platform/feed convo... Elsewhere in ET there is a forex "trader" who has posted several Al Brooks vids. There is no need to discuss the disadvantage of forex here. I read Brooks bar-by-bar book several years ago. And some of you may know, there are many similarities between Brooks and Hershey regarding the Spyder methods. So given that everything we know and have learned up until right now has gotten us to this point, With regards to Spyder methods, this vid imo, is worth one or two cups of coffee. We never know where or when another nugget or even an a-ha or will show up... weekends have a purpose.
stepan7 created very good tool indeed. And he is not alone. Probably you are aware of ETLURKER who automated channels and posted results (trades) years ago. As well as this person What is common in work of these guys and also Al Brooks? Pure price action. Volume is of no use. Guess why
There are traders whom understand the role and function of volume and there are traders whom don’t. Thank you for stopping by and letting us know which group you are in.
Price provides context, volume provides turns. Choosing the right tool to track price gets you 50% there, though the last 50% are the hardest.
