Wait, you just said that in NC you haven't seen the spike in cases I described, but now you're agreeing that NC is at record-high numbers of cases. Which is it? Because if your state is at record numbers and you haven't noticed a significant spike in cases, you're not looking very hard.
NC continues to shatter records in new daily COVID-19 cases; positivity rate still above 31% https://www.wral.com/coronavirus/nc...ases-positivity-rate-still-above-31/20067733/
In other news, the vaccines have caused more deaths and increased transmission of the Corona Virus. Now, who would have thought that, GWB wanna be doctor and ET troll? Don't worry you have been jabbed multiple times like everyone else. So, no worries, right? https://truthpress.news/news/145-co...d-death-after-introduction-of-covid-vaccines/
I stated we have not noticed a significant spike in cases at schools in recent weeks -- in terms of teachers or students testing positive who were present in the school. We have seen a number of students & teachers infected over the holidays and did not return to school this past week (because they are positive). The holidays involve travel and family gatherings that led to spikes nationwide -- including in North Carolina. We will see how the upcoming weeks go in schools in our state -- I expect that as more cases are present in the community then cases will increase among teachers and students present in the school -- the question is how much will the rate spike. Generally with masks in place the spread in schools in North Carolina have been lower than the community spread of their associated counties in the fall semester of 2021. However as noted by USA Today... the overall Covid case spikes are higher in states with limited mitigation measures. Most counties and cities near us have mask mandates, capacity limitations, and other measures in place. North Carolina may be hitting new highs but the rate of spread is not in the top 10 states. North Carolina allows each county, city, and school district to set their own rules regarding mask mandates and other rules. Unlike Florida - the state government in N.C. does not limit what local governments can do to address Covid spread. The state serves to provide information and data to allow local governments and school boards to make their decisions. I will note that our rural red N.C. counties which put limited mitigations in places are enduring much worse results on a per capita basis in terms of Covid cases, hospitalizations (originated from those counties - sadly many ship their patients to urban locations due to lack of facilities), and deaths.
They're still learning new information about Omicron. Yet, it does show there are many posting online that are clueless about "reinfections" and how scientists/researchers have been studying "reinfections". Further, the U.S. in 2020 and most of 2021 was one of the worst countries in the world to study the genomic sequence of Covid infected patients. Yet, the latter 1/2 of 2021 there's been this "catch up" effort in the U.S. with the rest of the world. It's that effort that I expect we'll begin to learn more about reinfections, viral shedding and many other aspects about each Variant of Concern including knowing how "viral shedding" within a quarantine household...reinfects other members over a duration of several months. In addition, they're learning to ignore a positive Covid test within the first 90 days after the person has recovered from the initial Covid infection because of shedding. More importantly, they're learning that the body immune response is "different" the 2nd time or 3rd time for the same person that has reinfection. The first time around, a person may develop Covid pneumonia and related respiratory problems. A person's second infection, the same person may develop blog clots in their legs. In a third infection, the same person may develop mild symptoms (e.g. sore throat, fatigue, running nose, fever)... Then a different person that has also had multiple Covid infections and even from the same genomic sequence Variant of Concern may have the above in a completely different order. Why ? Covid doesn't attack the same way even if it's the same Variant of Concern. The different ways of attacking are the reason why the host (our body) exhibits different immune system responses. Reminder, in the 1918 - 1920 Pandemic, the Influenza was initially causing mild symptoms although globally about 2 million people still died. Yet, it quickly learned how to get around our immune defenses by mutating into something more pathogenic...it then preceded to kill off another 48 million people for a whopping total of about 50 million deaths in the 1918 - 1920 Influenza Pandemic. It's possible, Omicron could be just a spy to learn what defenses are thrown it's way by our Humoral and Cellular Immune Systems. It could then, in theory, mutate into something much more pathogenic after it has figured out a way to destroy our cells (kill us) by doing such without the need of a spike protein. Covid is rewriting the academic texts on Immunology, Molecular Biology, Virology, Infectious Disease, and Genetics. wrbtrader
I guess you didn't see the report all over the news that said over 75 N.C. bus drivers tested positive for Omicron so they've had to shut down the entire high school system, and that was just the bus drivers from one county!
And you may want to ask if that county (Guilford) is one with mask mandates or not. Most N.C. school systems started the school year with a shortage of bus drivers. Drivers in multiple school systems including Wake, Cumberland and others have been using sick outs and strikes since August to try to get higher pay.
Politicos are exercising the hubris and stupidity. What is hopefully likely is that Omicron will spread across the population, infecting many/most, with mild disease... for which the afflicted will have acquired natural immunity. Nobody should have their panties in a twist at this time... There hasn't been enough time for that yet.
"Using sick outs to try to get higher pay" but the 75 drivers just coincidently tested positive for covid?
