With media outlets reporting over the weekend that WHO states you can catch Omicron twice.... the "Omicron is the vaccine" mantra is not working out very well.

Can someone get Omicron for the second time after recovering?
WHO scientists informed if it is possible to get Omicron for the second time after recovering.

In case someone recovered from Omicron, is it possible for them to get it for the second time?

According to the scientists of World Health Organisation (WHO), it is possible to get Omicron for the second time.

WHO published in a note on Omicron that it is possible to get affected for the second time. It can also affect covid-recovered people. People who are not vaccinated, are at more risk to get the virus.

Last month, WHO informed in a note that people who recovered from covid stand 2-5 times more chance to get affected by Omicron than they did by Delta.

They further informed that the severity of the symptoms of Omicron are still unknown.

There is none. You're screwed if you hang out amongst large crowds. You're likely going to get it if you're exposed to it. The only thing you can do is minimize how much time you spend in public groups, such as restaurants and bars. Again, I'll go back to my real-world example. Out of 12 people in my travel group, 11 got Omicron and 10 people out of the 12 were vaccinated.

I'll give you another example of how contagious this thing is. My son's high school sends out an email every time a student or faculty member tests positive. On any given week over the past year, we would typically get an email or two per week saying that either one or two people had tested positive. Omicron comes blasting through our area a couple of weeks ago and the day after the kids go back to school, I get this email: "39 people associated with the school have tested positive". And that was just reflecting what happened on day one of the new semester.

How many of the vaccinated vs. the unvaccinated is omicron putting in the hospital, and in the ICUs? Honest question, I have not been monitoring this. I'm double vaxxed and will have a booster this week.

In regards to schools. Our local school systems in North Carolina require masks and use other social distancing measures. While the number of teachers and students out with Covid have gone up over the past week (mainly due to them catching Omicron during holiday travel)--- we have not seen the type of spike you are describing (yet). I expect the primary difference is that Florida does not require masks in schools and most school systems in our state require masks. With a largely unvaccinated population of students, other mitigation measures matter.

Well plenty of people in NC are getting it somehow, someway:

"The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Friday, Jan. 7, reported 28,474 new COVID-19 cases, up from 24,292 the day before and another record high. The count has continued to rise since the state saw a record of more than 20,000 cases on Jan. 5."

Yes... similar to many other states -- North Carolina is reaching record case highs with Omicron. Keep in mind that Omicron appears to be the second most infectious disease on the face of the earth with measles being number 1.

However it should be noted that states with limited mitigation measures generally account for the top 10 states with the fastest spread. This should not be surprising, proper public health practices do matter in limiting the spread of disease in midst of a pandemic.

COVID omicron surge: Florida ranks 5th among states where virus spreads the fastest. Cases up by 40%
    https://www.palmbeachpost.com/story...orida-covid-cases-deaths-vaccines/9134687002/

From No. 4 to No. 5.

After Christmas, Florida was No. 9 among states where COVID was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis shows. Then after New Year's Day 2022, the state creeped up to No. 4. How are we doing this week?

Florida still on Top 10 list where virus is spreading the fastest

New coronavirus cases leaped in Florida in the week ending Sunday, rising 40% as 423,150 cases were reported. The previous week had 302,179 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Florida ranked fifth among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States increased 75.9% from the week before, with 4,967,431 cases reported. With 6.45% of the country's population, Florida had 8.52% of the country's cases in the last week. Across the country, 49 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.

    • To compare, in the week of Christmas when Florida ranked ninth, cases rose 332.9% with 124,865 cases reported.
    • In the week before that, Florida had reported 28,841 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19, a 142% increase.

The New Year's holiday weekend significantly disrupted who got tested, how many people got tested, what labs operated and what government agencies reported on time. Many of the New Year's weekend reports were shifted into the latest week, and the previous week was disrupted by late reporting from the weekend of Christmas. Consequently, week-to-week comparisons will be skewed and these numbers will be unreliable even as they're accurate to what states reported.

  10. I dont blame Omicron, I blame parents.

Same at my son's high school... was 1-2 cases a week in a very large high school.

    Then parents went full fucktard.

The week or so before Xmas break, several juniors and seniors had large parties at their house as was known around school. Suddenly it went to 30-40 kids in a week testing positive and even more over the break. My son caught it from basketball practice where we believe a kid whose brother tested positive still came to practice over break with no hesitation. Out of 6 kids at practice that day 5 got it over the next 5 days.

Fucktarded parents are the biggest cause for spread among kids, not the school policies because for the most part in school transmissions have been under control. I think Omicron being more contagious is not an issue if we followed basic common sense but the adults in the room often act worse than the children.

In my case, a huge spike in cases right before the end of the year due to parties as the cases were mostly tracked back to that (NOT IN SCHOOL). I guarantee it was tight spaces, no masks and lot of sharing of air. My son spending a whole week of break sick because some parent sent their son to practice knowing a house member was positive.

THIS is the biggest reason why shit spreads now...
