That's the whole point of a variant. It's not what you had before. It's something somewhat different. Of course you're unprotected. I just had Omicron and it was basically a head cold for a week. Trust me, if you've had Covid before, Omicron is not that big of a deal.
If you have a specific post to point out, I'm happy to discuss it. I'm not going to read the entire thread trying to figure out what you're trying to say. Hospitalizations can be serious. Are they with COVID or from COVID? Are they more than pneumonia? Flu? Do they fully recover? Are they with or without immuno compromised conditions or comorbidities? Because all this stuff matters, you know.
As did I. And it was essentially a week head cold, as you say. And I'm 50, pretty fit and don't have any complications to worry about.
Just a few of the links that I posted on the other thread.......... But you agree you can spread if you caught it, especially asymptomatically, and you dont have a choice who you spread it to. I dont push any vax politics on anyone but when people want everyone around them to be as lax with their health protocols as they are, then you are spreading the same hypocrisy. It is like a smoker who has no fear of lung cancer demanding to be able to smoke in front of people and telling them to get over it. If you all want to say that keeping distances is a farce and mask wearing is not science (it is an airborne virus) and following cleaning protocols is Big Brother, then you are pushing your narrative on others around you just as you feel vaxxers are on you. For me it is like parents whose kid has COVID and no symptoms and simply sends them to school because it is nothing and tells no one. Does that parent have any idea who their kid could be infecting? You cannot predict where a virus will spread (my son got it but we did not but we are in the same household and did not isolate him until he tested positive). If your son tested positive would you keep him home from school for the required days or let him go to school. It does not matter whether you are not vaccinated because that controls your own immune system. But it does matter if your belief in the nothingness of the virues leads you to not mitigate spreading it. for me that is the difference.
Not quite, a variant is merely a mutation, if the virus is similar enough, prior immunity will likely take care of it. A variant of concern is one that's mutated enough to escape immunity. As far as I know, Omicron's spike protein is still similar enough to be targeted by vax induced antibodies. I have my doubts that prior infections don't have antibodies to Target omicron for what is worth, but those who haven't gotten Ill or gotten vaxxed should get vaxxed Those that have gotten Ill should also get vaxxed as you're gambling with yours and others' health as consensus on natural immunity is solidified.
So I read some of this (I'm not going to waste time on fear porn that isn't backed by data, and some of your articles aren't backed by reliable data), and I'd like to ask how this compares to pneumonia hospitalizations? Also, in the first article, the comment: More than three-quarters — 78 percent — were hospitalized because of complications of Covid-19. About half needed help breathing, and nearly a third were placed in intensive care. A third of the 915 patients were otherwise healthy, without any underlying health problems that would have put them at greater risk. is particularly telling. So 300 or so were "otherwise healthy" and had to be hospitalized because of COVID, but how many of these needed help breathing or were placed in ICU? How many were brought in because the moment the child tested positive, the panicking parents rushed to the ER (as is wont to do based on all the fear porn)? You see, you guys like to cloud the problem with amalgamated data that pushes a narrative, but so many times digging into the data shows that it isn't anywhere near the problem it is being made out to be. If children every year are subject to the ICU because of problems breathing from flu or garden variety pneumonia or colds, then how much more so with Omicron? doesn't say. Won't say. How many of the 300 or so healthy children (in the first example) had severe symptoms? Doesn't say. Won't say. How many of the 915 recovered fully? Doesn't say, won't say. This is why I can't trust your narrative. Show specifics and I'm happy to change my mind.
It seems like you put a lot of words in my mouth that I have never said or even insinuated. First of all, I work from home so I don't come in contact with a lot of people to begin with. If I feel like I'm getting sick I put myself on lockdown, which means I don't even leave the house for two weeks. Period. And that's something I've always done... long before Covid ever came along. I think anyone who willingly goes out in public while they are sick with something contagious is quite frankly an asshole. Second, I'm not an anti-vaxxer. I've said repeatedly that if you've never had Covid before and you are the typical human that never exercises or pays much attention to diet, you'd be an idiot to not get vaccinated at this stage of the game. Third, I never said wearing masks is not science or made a negative comment about cleaning protocols. Fourth, I never stated that I had a belief in the "nothingness of the viruses". As I stated earlier, I am very sensitive about spreading anything to other people, either from myself or from any other member of my family. And finally, there is a big misconception that vaccinated people are somehow immune to spreading Covid. Although the risk of getting and spreading prior versions of Covid by vaccinated people are greatly reduced, they can still get infected and spread a new variant like Omicron just like an unvaccinated person can. And that's exactly why the Pfizer CEO said prior vaccines and boosters aren't doing much to prevent vaccinated people from getting infected with a new variant like this newest one and that's why we're seeing Omicron spread like wildfire.
