Omar must go!

  1. Not going to enter into a larger discussion on that right now.

But no. Was not directed at Muslims. It was directed at Turkey as a country, not Turkey as having muslim people. There have been attempts many times over the years to pass such a resolution but we/Administrations/etc. have been sensitive about offending Turkey over there genocidal past which they have refused to acknowledge- a nato ally- blah, blah, blah.

But Turkey is currently involved in or thinking about committing (more) genocide against the Kurds, so the resolution puts their past in their face again as a way of sounding an alarm.

    Like that.

  2. I still think it is stupid for the U.S. government to pass an empty statement condemning actions between 2 parties in a foreign land almost 100 years ago...apart from relating to Turkey don't they have something more important to address? Whether it was a genocide or mass killing or civil war...wtf...

This like a college student council passing a resolution condemning a foreign country.....big fucking deal.. like Turkey paused and went..... oh no...Congress condemned our actions over 100 years ago....what do we do... .

Oh look Turkey just passed a resolution condemning slavery in the 1800s.....we are fucked now.

  3. Wrong.

That is the argument of neo-nazis in Germany.

I am the first to argue that lefties try to milk too much out of constantly regrooming past injustices. But when you have clowns that do not acknowledge holocausts, and are actively involved in activities to replay them - as Turkey is in regard to the Kurds- then that is an appropriate time time to speak up about it. Bigtime.

Okay, I am done. My views are on the record, and disagreements are noted in advance. Have to go into the big city for the day.

  4. Nothing to do with Neo Nazis...

We had 100 years and now all of a sudden it is an issue......hypocritical. In the last 100 years of befriending their dictators it was never an issue for anyone. With the Holocaust and in Rhwanda and in China (Japanese atrocities) it was condemned outright and change was affected.

But now U.S. is concerned with Armenians all of a sudden and the dark past?

The Turks murdered 1.5 million Armenians in systematic slaughter and we never recognized it as a genocide, which is a big deal to the Armenians.

  6. More importantly, the issue is that the Turks will not acknowledge it as genocide, and now they are making lots of noise and actual genocidal steps toward the the Kurd population.

It is not that countries should not be allowed to move past the gruesome aspects of the history but there must be an acknowledgement that it was wrong. It would be like Germany threatening a jewish population right as we speak and also saying that no genocide occurred in the past. Uh oh. That's a bad combination.

As I said earlier, I am one one of the first to complain about lefties who want to cry out that they are scarred for life because Alexander Hamilton had slaves or something. But Turkeys situation is different. They are actually participating in the wiping out of Kurds - depending on why kind of restraint we bargain for each day to stop them- and, oh by the way, they know nothing about their past genocide. Not sure if you are a Kurd that everything about Turkeys tendencies seems so far and long ago. Turkey is properly condemned and cautioned to not go down the road that they have gone down before. Yes, other countries have done things like it in the past, but as I said, their contrition and change in behavior indicate that they are attempting to redeem themselves, Americans included. Turkey shows neither- no contrition or acknowledgement of past genocide, and continuing to threaten genocide against a neighboring population.

Alright done. Some won't get it. Some do. Some need to see the bodies.
