Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

  1. I think it highly unlikely that anyone here invests, but attached is the Excel sheet I use to keep track of the yields of some common FIDO 401K funds based on their Jackean channels. I find the fund comparisons on the histogram to be illuminating. The major indices are added for comparison. Simple minds need simple tools.

  2. In case no one has noticed, the only stocks which AREN'T sick are the MIDDIE's. Bye, bye, NAZDUCK and Small Craps! I'm gone! (SPICKS is next!)

  3. Run the numbers. Less than $10M in futures lets you manipulate $1.5B in oil daily. Trivial compared to the TRILLIONS responding in the equities market. Makes you think.

  4. Isn't it lovely! Gold and oil in perfect synch! (Gold on top, oil on the bottom in the attached chart.) Now I can drain the oil out of my safety deposit box, get a smaller box, and just keep gold in it. The rental on that box was killing me!

Oil up. Gold up. Euro up. Stocks down. Bonds down. What does that tell you, kiddies? ECON 101 anyone?

  5. Come on Possum, don't post these riddles! Another sleepless night. Break it down to lowest common denominator pablum. :)

  6. Satchel. Bottom line for me is that the wife is screaming at me about why I'm not getting her out of stock funds faster. "It's because I'm always WRONG" I say. "Well you sure were WRONG that foreign stocks would continiue going up if the dollar continued going down" says she. My only defense is that I bought more gold last week. Also I can safely point out that she's not in bonds. When I look at her available Fido funds, NOTHING is performing. That's the ECON 101 issue: there are times when EVERYTHING goes in the shitter.

  7. OMG! The value of my gold is depreciating! Just for abusement I charted the price of a barrel of oil in gold, attached. I think the price history of good CA champagnes looks like that, too, which is MY measure of inflation.

  8. If you believe in Old Saint Jack, and I do, most fervently, at least in re channels, this chart does not look good for us gold bugs (gold bugs bunny?). My apologies to those of you not old enough to remember what an Old Gold is.

P.S.: Can you believe that the chart on the initial post here has been downloaded 831 times now? Gives you a warm fuzzy about ET, don't it. The ratio of reads of the last chart to reads of the first chart still decays exponentially to zero. At least that part is encouraging about ET. It is educable.

  9. I just saw the most amazing thing. When I wake up in the middle of the night (do you think maybe I drink too much, Doc?), I put myself back to sleep by watching NQ tick. (I also read ET for the same reason.) Who trades NQ then, and why? Qui sait. Anyway, you can get mighty bored and sleepy waiting for NQ to tick then. So I'm watching, as usual with QM up, and QM (even duller) ticks up on one car and NQ instantaneously ticks down with two cars. Whoever you are, man, you're on top of it!

  10. I will add one more little drollerie for the amusement of Nkhoi, ET's other resident insomniac (although I doubt that he is a drunk, I think he surfs porn then). On those increasingly rare days when I can trade (Work is such a drag. Why do clients keep asking me back? Don't they know I have BETTER things to do?), I have this new audiovisual money-making mantra (MMM). I replay in my head (the BIG one, dummy) Joel Grey in "Cabaret", all deliciously rouged and tarted up, singing:

"Money makes the world go round!
    The world go round!
    The world go round!
Money makes the world go round!
    That clinking clanking sound!
It makes the world go round!
    Money money money money!
    Money money money money!"

You try it. It works for me. Maybe sometime Jack could be induced to sing it for me, make the imagery even better.
