So, in your world only criminals exist and intelligent, rational and honest human beings? Lol. If someone cheated on you with your wife how would you react? How would a not insignificant number of citizens react? Last time I checked there was no death penalty on cheating and there were judges who reserved the right to speak judgement and sentences into existence. But hey, let time just pass. Ultimately the bogus claim by your ilk was that crimes will go down when ordinary citizens can arm and defend themselves. Because criminals would then know that everyone else may carry. That claim will be defeated. Of course intelligent and educated human beings knew that all along. But society only moves as fast as its slowest members of society.
For your self defense? What you do when someone pulls a gun on you? Magically stop time and pull yours? Or you can now play hero when you see a nearby bank robbery in progress? Lol
Its not about militias. Its just insurance that means I have something to say about what transpires around me in about a 40-ft radius. Ride the L for a few months and then tell me all about gun control.
Yeah, I witnessed a bank robbery when I was 15, dude ran out right past me and spoke to me. He shot a teller in the head about 10 seconds before I encountered him. My mom said the FBI came to the door wanting to interview me but I was not at home. My mom was robbed in broad daylight coming out of the Bank of America in Hollywood. She had so many Porsches stolen over the years I can't even recall them all. Just part of growing up in LA. Somebody pulls a gun on me? I comply. If they make a tactical mistake, however, I will shoot them dead, step over the body and walk to a police station. In Chicago, for example, I would be in some pretty big trouble but I will have preserved my life.
I love all these wannabe Constitutional lawyers. The Supreme Court, both liberal and conservative judges have decided over 125 years of SC precedent that the Bill of Rights are not absolute rights and they can be regulated and modified by the government. So to say the government has no right at all to set limits or regulations whatsoever is just wrong and you look ignorant.
The framers of the constitution were quite clear that the word militia meant the whole of the civilian population. I think he was referencing the "well regulated" part of the amendment though. I would encourage you to get a concealed carry licence if you're going to carry. It's a small price to pay to ensure that this constitutional right won't be taken away from you in the future. "I ask who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers." - George Mason "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country." - James Madison “A militia when properly formed are in fact the people themselves…and include, according to the past and general usuage of the states, all men capable of bearing arms… "To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them." - Richard Henry Lee
Excellent post. I don't carry now as I live in a very safe place. Chicago doesn't issue carry permits and handgun possession is illegal. I don't think you can even have it in your home.
eh...it's debatable, though your source quotes are appreciated. The way it's worded in the constitution hints at a militia as was known then, a body of people trained in arms to do battle. Not just the random populace w/o training and organization. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
