  1. He will be dead by 1/20. They want to kill him very quickly before the major battles begin in the spring against the "insurgents". The guy is like George Washington for the Sunnis, so it is best to kill him as quickly as possible.
     
  2. That was my first thought too. But then, somehow the phrase "Remember the Alamo" came to mind.

    Not to sure the effect martyrdom will have on recruitment, or even if government is concerned with it. But if escalation of the war is the goal, then for sure kill him. The quicker the better.

    On another note:

    The unauthorized video, which ignited protests by Saddam's fellow Sunni Arabs in various Iraqi cities, threatens to turn the ousted dictator into a martyr. Saddam was shown never bowing his head as he faced death, and asking the hecklers if they were acting in a manly way.
