As to the pay sites, I NEVER subscribe. Anything that requires me to enter my email is out.

I like informative sites that are FREE, but have a long list of other services, or links on the side, you can peruse and see if you want to buy something.

The LEAD, or sucker bait is the FREE information, but you have to sell them something else. A SECRET maybe?

  2. falconview, didn't you have to give your email for this site?

So TJ, two different views. Personally I would market to those people who do subscribe to paid sites, rather than the ones who never do. Just my humble opinion.

That was a very good post on margin calls. It made me reflect and think more clearly about what I am trying. Very useful.

Long ago, decades back - I had stuff closed on me for margin calls. I also had a couple of instances when positions were messed up by assignment. Something I was not aware of at the time, and in that period, it was very slow, having to go through a discount broker on the telephone, and wait for him to call back and then the broker was not very option knowledgeable, being a stock broker.

I like this computer period of trading much more. Also all the information out there on the web for different things. Especially practice trading with funny money. It was bloody expensive learning back in the old days.

I'm going to try this week, coming in to shorter month, for the debit spreads and see what the reaction is to index movement. What I miss, is the ability to set up a trade on my simple OPTION MASTER and then manipulate the index number and see how the prices change. Rather simple stuff, but great for setting exit price targets before hand.

I was able to access ELITE TRADER SPX forum, without registering to read. To contribute, I had to put my email down and register. From reading the SPX trader forum I learned a lot and figured joining was a useful and good thing. I would not get hit with a lot of SPAM selling me stuff and overloading my email box.

It has worked out that way. But yes, I like to look first and decide THEN if I want to join. Not have to subscribe first, then often pay money too. Those HARD SELL sites get junked rapidly.

  5. Falconview. I agree, the hard sell ones you can spot a mile away. Usually have some time limited special, and go on and on I have seen a few i the options arena like that. I'm with you to avoid those ones.

Dull Monday morning looks like? I´m planning to do directonal long experiments this week and directonal debit spreads in the close month.

I did locate an online option calculater that seems to work like my old Option Master and can now project sell exit prices. I would like to run a debit spread through an option calculator system, if your url you offered is still available and will do the debit spread.

    STANFORD

On TOS there is a SCAN function and in that is a list of spread trades currently being used by different traders in TOS on different indexes. Very interesting and informative to see what others are doing in spreads. You can even back engineer from them if so inclined.

  7. FV:

I made a post in blog. It contains a link to the option calculator. I will add more links to other calculators. http://stockmarketoptions.blogspot.com/2010/10/stock-market-and-currency-markets-some.html

If you have links to other calculators, please share. I will add them there.

    FV and Stanford:

I have some remarks on stock market and currency in latest blog post. I have to add the direct URL, but it is pain to find it and put it. Currently, it is in main page (http://stockmarketoptions.blogspot.com )

A post I will add will deal with earnings and options. This is a potentially dangerous period for option sellers. I will explain why in the future post, and what one could do during this period.

    Regards

One of your links didn´t work. One did.

Option Calculator 1.42 Its free, very simple and basic.
Comes as a download. I´ve been having trouble with my regular computer and am on a spare and so far have been unable to establish it as an icon and regular feature. Computer is Spanish language and keyboard.

  9. Sorry I did not double check the links. Here the link to calculator: http://stockmarketoptions.blogspot.com/2010/10/stock-options-calculators.html

If you look to the right side of the page, there is an archive of all posts---Useful in case your lose links.

It calculates the worth of an option. I think it is good you play with you, so that you know the data that needs as input, and have a sense of option sensitivity to inputs.

PS: Did you learn how to roll your Rs? :)

  10. FV: I am waiting to see if there will be a selloff or a head fake in EUR/USD. Projected time for either one is by 3PM. What do you think of EUR/USD if you follow it?

If a head fake, sellers seem to be waiting at 1.3750. These are motivated sellers (because they lost last night). Most likely european and asian people.

2:25PM: I think the move down is getting under way. Now at 1.3686. It has to be fast if this is serious.
