Odds Roberts overrides the Senate rules and allow witnesses?

  1. The other thing that is getting goofy is the lefities- and sometimes conservatives- arguing that the Clinton Impeachment set some kind of precedent or rules that must be followed or else you are somehow violating some long history of Anglo-American case law or something. Ahhh, no. That is just what was done in the Clinton trial. Otherwise the Constituional outlines the process and there are all sorts of ways that you can go as long as it is withing the Constitutional boundaries.

Couldnt care less whether they had or did not have witnesses in the Clinton trial or how long it lasted and what order of events took place. It's fine to look at earlier impeachments for analysis of what works or could happen and all of that, but as far as getting all huffy because the Clinton impeachment sets binding precedence or is controlling. No. Not hardly.

  2. The supreme irony in that scenario is that, yes, the witness or parties will be going to court as is their constitutional and statutory right.

Meanwhile, they are impeaching Trump for obstruction of justice because he asserted that parties needed to court to get a court order before he could be held in contempt or subject to allegations of obstruction. Just not doing what another party wants is not obstruction of justice. Saying you will not follow a court order is. But you gotta get there first.

So the minute any of the parties go to court as is there right- it undermines the basis of one of the impeachment charges against OrangeManBad.

Crazy shiite. Note to dems: Get a candidate.

The IP has not a single shred of an understanding of The Constitution or of how The Senate works.

  6. Indeed.

And that is very much what it will look like the day after John Bolton testifies if they are successful with their little genius plan to get him there.

Jerry Nadler is not exactly Field Marshall Rommel.

    Its fascinating.

He is completely shameless about simply not knowing how our government works and willing to argue impossible hypothetical situations. Weird way to go through life...

  8. Also relevant is the point that I have made several times which is that Here4Bullshit tries to post on weekends and holidays when he has no media matters pay for click links and it never works out. He tries to freewheel and make a point based on independent thinking rather than just posting links and it is almost always a disaster as is the case in his initial post in this thread. You guys think I am kidding. I am not . It's sort of a weekend/holiday problem for him.

Tomorrow it will be back to normal. Wham-o. Eight links on how Trump lied about Stormy's bra size, and how Michael Flynn has had his credit card cancelled or something. Oh, and let's not forget those Michael Cohen taxi medallions. Gotta get an update on those.

Where Roberts May actually intercede in an unprecedented way is in the matter of executive privilege in a senate impeachment trial.

When weighing a justices role during an impeachment trial, their traditional position has been to rule and hope not to get over ruled but this executive privilege matter is not so tidy.

The senate may vote to allow witnesses and executive privilege does not fall under senate rules, it’s a constitutional matter- hence why a justice is present, to not draw out the trial for 8 months.
