We need a deal. We have our own Big Joe in the WH. While not at the top of his game, I'm sure he can still cut a deal. Me, I'm Crapgame offering my man of the people advice. Kelly's Heroes (1970) - Crapgame Wants to Make a Deal (youtube.com)
5 possible October surprises that could roil the Trump-Harris race https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4907731-5-october-surprises-trump-harris-race/
Joe Biden hasn't had any power since they gave him the boot. Kamala has no incentive to do any work. There's currently a huge power vacuum in the oval. I'm not optimistic a good deal can be struck any time soon. I see two immediate options... door #1: give the union whatever they want, door #2: let them strike and have the next President deal with it. I think door #2 is most likely. Not that the President can do that much anyway. The Fed, the Fed... will have more work to do in order to soak up all the money we're swimming in. So, either way rates will be higher for longer as promised. I hope all the reckless spenders enjoyed those 50 bps. In the grand scheme it's not a big deal... just some extra machinations caused by fiat currency and crony capitalism. Just spitballing, wtf do I know?
It's difficult to imagine that team Kamala would just sit back and let Joe dither away letting this strike go on for any appreciable length of time. I mean, if she wins it's handing her a gigantic bag of shit day one. It's a great strategy if one wanted to torpedo a Trump presidency, but your own? You're right, all we can do is spit ball our goofy ideas, but this is gonna get real sooner than later.
It's a great point. The only thing I can think is there isn't much the White House can do anyway. What are their options? Have the National Guard get union workers out of bed in the morning at gun point? Capital has been mis-allocated and this a growing pain. As I understand it, U.S. ports are vintage compared to other countries and the fear of automation is gumming things up. If history sheds any light, the only thing a President could really do is allow the workers to be fired. Hmmm... knowing this, firings would probably help Trump, and Biden's inaction would be an aid for Kamala. Firing lots of your voters before an election isn't a great idea.
I think the wars we're financing are the biggest risk for a October surprise. Somebody sets of a dirty bomb, maybe a semi tactical nuke, something that delivers a really high body count, that's a game changer. Who it helps/hurts, we can debate that all day, but it will move the needle. Question will be, who do you want overseeing WWIII? Trump, he'll go postal. Kamala, could bend us over and wave the white flag. I think that's unlikely. She'll probably go postal as well because that's what the war machine wants. It's not a question of if, but when. 2025 is going to have us living in interesting times, and me thinks, that isn't going to be the best of times.
From what I've recently read they got a really good offer last night. The language seemed to be it was rejected to further drive the point home of how important the workers are. Seems to be posturing at this point. My guess is it settles by weeks end. Can't imagine them thumbing their nose at a 50 percent pay raise and trippling their pension plan, but then again, these guys are longshoremen. Second year of their apprenticeship is doing time in county. They can be...difficult.
I don't necessarily see a need for pessimism. But, yeah... certainly some interesting times. LMFAO, hey... those are my friends you're talking about!
Maybe the October surprise is just how many (or few) surprises there are. Eh, these things are usually best determined after the fact TBH.
A full-out regional war in the Middle East may be the October surprise --- if I was placing money on it.
