Not seeing a lot of coverage of this story in the UK. But these demonstrations remind me of the riots we had a couple of months back - minus the violence and criminal aspect, as far as I can tell (from the limited news coverage). I guess the demonstrations will die a natural death because there is no coherent message...how can you die for a cause when you don't know what the cause is? KKK comments seemed a little out of context? Not sure what Maverick did to provoke that insult? I think I'd be quite insulted if someone threw that my way just for being right of centre, politically.. "Hard right" or "hard left"? It's basically the same thing. Was Hitler "hard right" or "hard left"? He was a national socialist. But he was also considered to be on the extreme right by those on the left. In reality you have a political circle, not left-right line, and eventually the extreme viewpoints meet each other on the opposite side of the circle to the centre ground. Maybe it's a sphere not a circle even... To generalize, the left wants "stability" and the right wants "freedom", but when you get to the extremes you have neither...
Particularly since the KKK was founded by the democratic party to resist the "radical republicans" who wanted to reform the south after the war. Calling someone a KKK member is akin to calling them a democrat. An insult indeed.
Okay, since I now know you finished the 12th grade only, research, that means google, dixiecrats. That should help you a little bit.
My natural tendency is towards the right/libertarian school since "equal opportunity" > "equal outcomes" Why bother doing anything if the outcome is the same for everyone? But one question I have is, "What do Ayn Rand, Milton Friedman or wiser minds say about the need for a rule of law?" How is this concept different from any other collectivist notion? Because I suppose the need for rule of law could be construed as a fairly left-ish notion if you are being pedantic. It doesn't really fit into the libertarian ideal. What sort of shit show we'd have without the rule of law? Someone I don't think I'll be getting my answers from the Occupiers. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?
You know what's funny RCG? My complaint was about the idea of indoctrination. I am believe that all children should be allowed to grow freely without their parents forcing their politcal beliefs on them, including religion. The irony here is that you brought up the KKK. The very organization that spreads hate and racism through indoctrination! Kind of funny huh? Not sure how you managed to completely trip over that concept, but you did. LOL. I'll tell you what, name the day in the next 2 weeks. Let's have that beer. I want to see what you are really like. I can't believe that you buy into anything that you post. I think a more personal setting will allow you to express yourself more freely. What do you say?
Your first post is biased. You pick at the flimsiest issues that the protesters bring up, ones that do cry of them being spoiled babies thinking they are entitled to something. And yes, the Iphone & Ipad are ironically prevalent among these kids, which I think is the biggest comedy of these protests. However, bringing up the issue of the bailouts being pushed through against the people's consensus is important enough for there to be a protest. The big problem with the bankers is that they are collecting millions upon millions thanks to the bailout, while the rest keep suffering. This is all done by big business interest controlling government, hence the issues of lobbyists and campaign finance reform are brought up. Let's be serious, since 2008 this country has been about socializing the losses and privatizing the grains of the rich & elite. It's pretty much corporate fascism. That's enough reason for a violent uprising, let alone a peaceful protest.
I think the sign in the center is spot on. Banks got bailed out while the people got sold out is pretty much what happened. Why should not the people be upset about this?
They did, it was called the tea party. For 3 freaking years they bitched about the bailouts and too big to fail. And what did the media do? They ignored them and called them racists.
