obtaining stock certificates

what is the cheapest way to buy 1 share of a company and get their stock certifcate?

Almost all direct purchase plans have minimums over $250.

Oneshare.com seems like a ripoff

Would doing this through IB be viable?

I'm also checking out sharebuilder.com. I've e-mailed them and asked them what it would take to accomplish this.

Are you buying a specific stock, or just any stock? You can buy old certificates off of ebay and the like that are kinda cool. Old rail companies and such....

not sure if that will do for you, however.

I think I'd actually like to have ownership in the stocks as well..

I dug it up on the sharebuilder website that they charge $30 to mail out a certificate... guess there's no cheap way to do it...

 

What's the point?

Check and see if the company has a direct investment program. That would afford you the cheapest access.
