Yeah, when I lived in LA, they had the same bogus threat 3 years ago. They made some crap up about how terrorists like to wear long coats. I happened to be wearing a trench coat on a 75-degree day because I sat next to a vent at work. When I was walking home, I had two police cars monitor me the entire way home. No one bombed the malls.
