If over time enough people think "it's logical" to restrict risky action due to the potential economic harm to society, how long until people start defecting from the USA? At what point does it become too risky to do anything other than take public transportation to work and back and spend all your free time watching TV?

We should. Look at the US today - from kids to adults - more obesity than anytime in our history. I resent that healthy people, who eat well and work out, will now be subsidizing people who CHOOSE to abuse their bodies and who will incur substantially higher health care costs as they develop more chronic health conditions. And changing the thread topic a bit but we have no business incurring people who CHOOSE to be unhealthy and endanger their own health. Do auto insurers cover poor drivers who rack up tickets and cause accidents? No, they weed out the poor risk candidates.
