    Mandatory? Since when?

Show me one state that will throw your ass in jail for not having car insurance. Show me where on a tax form you have to prove that you're covered for car insurance?

And, how does someone who's irresponsible with the health of their life putting the lives of others at risk in the same way that irresponsible driving does?

  3. Uh, car insurance is because you operate a motor vehicle which can be deadly if not used properly. That comparison is completely irrelevant.

Being forced to pay for something simply because you are living human being is about as fucked up as it gets.

No one is forcing you to own let alone drive a car. That is a choice you make and as such, requires insurance.

Breathing is not a choice but a necessity.

You can't compare auto insurance requirement with health insurance requirement as it is 2 different animals. Why do you all not see the difference?

  6. This is already the case. Ever fill out a form with inaccurate information and mail it? That's felony mail fraud. Ever gotten a blowjob? That's felony sodomy in many states. Ever violate copyright laws? Five year federal felony right there. Ever threaten to kick someone's ass on the internet? Another five year felony.

The bottom line is that if you're not in a coma and all of your activities were known to the authorities, they could legally put each and every one of us in prison for life if they felt like it. Of course imprisoning an entire nation isn't the plan, but rather making EVERYONE a lawbreaker, and then selectively enforcing those laws against those individuals whom the government wishes to oppress.

  7. You said it better than me. Of course the grand finale is: everyone abandons you, you're on your own. The fucking leper.

  8. "Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them broken." You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against - then you'll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We're after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now, that's the system, Mr. Rearden, that's the game and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

This body of law is growing as a direct result of population, science and technology. Never before have there been so many humans, wielding so many different technologies, geometrically creating so many more possible and actual interactions, and with so much solid science able to identify the unintended consequences of all that.
